Story
Conventional wisdom holds that if we work hard we will be more successful, and if we are more successful, then we’ll be happy. If we can just find that great job, win that next promotion, lose those five pounds, happiness will follow. But recent discoveries in the field of positive psychology have shown that this formula is actually backward: Happiness fuels success, not the other way around. When we are positive, our brains become more engaged, creative, motivated, energetic, resilient, and productive at work.

Self-discipline is a wonderful thing. It can mean the difference between achieving goals or not achieving goals. It can give a person a greater sense of self-worth. It can allow someone the ability to work harder for a shorter amount of time and accomplish much more than before. Self-discipline can make the process of dropping bad habits in favor of good ones much easier to accomplish. People who have self-discipline are happier in life. They have a greater sense of purpose overall and a greater sense of accomplishment in everyday life..

Ambition can be a powerful force for good in our lives. But only if it is legitimate. Sometimes misinterpreted and often misunderstood, ambition - true ambition - is not a selfish quality. It is not another word for ruthless; it is not something to be shunned or subdued. Legitimate ambition is an honorable trait. At its very best, our ambition serves us and other people. In fact, pursuing your ambition is one of the most selfless things you can do.

Publisher's Summary
Do you ride the escalator or do you take the stairs? No matter how you define success, it always requires one thing: self-discipline. But as popular speaker and strategist Rory Vaden explains, we live in an "escalator world", one that's filled with shortcuts, quick fixes, and distractions that make it all too easy to slide into procrastination, compromise, and mediocrity. What seems like an easier path is really much harder in the end - and, most important, it won't take you where you want to go.
How do successful people stay focused and achieve results? This lively and insightful guide presents a simple program for taking the stairs - that is, for overcoming the temptations of quick fixes and procrastination, conquering creative avoidance, and transcending personal setbacks in order to tackle the work that leads to real success. Whatever your goals are, Rory Vaden's proven approach will get you there - one stair at a time.

Read It... Live By It.
Would you listen to Take the Stairs again? Why?
I've listened to this book four times now - and I'll continue to listen to it, as I'm reminded of certain truths every single time I do. Rory Vaden is obviously an accomplished speaker and does an excellent job of creating visual representations of the points he wants to convey.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Take the Stairs?
As an actor and voice artist, I desperately want to be successful (don't we all?), and I was hooked when Rory said, "Success is never owned, it is rented - and the rent is due every day."
What about Rory Vaden’s performance did you like?
Unlike many books in which the author does his own narration and shows his inexperience in front of a microphone, Rory Vaden is an award-winning public speaker who lives in front of a microphone. His job is to communicate a message in a vocal performance - and he does so brilliantly in this book.
What insight do you think you’ll apply from Take the Stairs?
There are many things I've learned from this book - the importance of creating good habits, deciding to do those things I don't want to do in order to accomplish what I do want, etc. But most of all it's the ever-present concept of the "taking the stairs" mentality... that is what will likely be the most long-lasting impact.

Decent Even for a Right-Brainer
For a Daily Deal, this is a jolly good listen: Neither a waste of money, nor a waste of time. I'm kind of a right-brained individual, have been rapturously wallowing in the audiobook, "Big Magic," have listened to "Rising Strong," but have gotten into the philosophies of Napoleon Hill and all also. "Take the Stairs" definitely veers toward business, but it can actually be applied to pretty much everything. You want success? Use the principles. The way (self) discipline is addressed is logical and really mirrors how "Big Magic" addresses it: You show up. You do the work. Every day.
Because you love it.
Because you have (faith) Perspective.
Don't worry. This is not a preachy audiobook. It's just that it's accessible to both Left-and-Right-Brainers.
What a concept...!

Wow!
This book was amazing, short, attention grabbing and life changing. I would definitely recommend listening to it once to get the gist and then again deliberately while taking notes. Like the book says "you'll be surprised how quickly your life will start changing for the better" when you start applying these principles to it.

Some good info but a little preachy on faith
First, let me say that there is some good information in this program. I was put off a little by the focus on faith and god but the principles here are good ones. The author reads the book, and you can tell he is a little inexperienced as he stumbles a few times during the read. The end of the book gets a little more preachy than I care for, but the motivation and nuggets in the book are in there regardless. Overall it was OK. not great.... but not bad.

Inspiring
Great book. Rory is a no-nonsense guy and he covers a lot in this book - if you have already read a bunch of motivational books and find most of them shallow and repetitive, regurgitating the same anecdotes and smart catchphrases, here is someone fresh, original, with substance that will help you become a better person. Would recommend him any day over the well known motivational "gurus" who speak a lot but say little. Cory is the real deal.

To the point valuable information well shared.
What did you love best about Take the Stairs?
I've read and listened to many books on the this type of material but I found Rory Vaden to be a terrific narrator and put the information together in a way that was on-point. I think soo much of this book that I purchased a copy to give to my teenage son as I think there are many life lessons here that absolutely will benefit my boy.
Any additional comments?
I really enjoyed this one. I'll likely listen to it again as I feel it worthwhile reenforcing the lesson here.
