Every day we experience the uncertainty, risks, and emotional exposure that define what it means to be vulnerable or to dare greatly. Based on 12 years of pioneering research, Dr. Brené Brown dispels the cultural myth that vulnerability is weakness and argues that it is, in truth, our most accurate measure of courage. Brown explains how vulnerability is both the core of difficult emotions like fear, grief, and disappointment, and the birthplace of love, belonging, joy, empathy, innovation, and creativity.

Story
Intelligence is usually seen as the ability to think and learn, but in a rapidly changing world, there's another set of cognitive skills that might matter more: the ability to rethink and unlearn. In our daily lives, too many of us favor the comfort of conviction over the discomfort of doubt. We listen to opinions that make us feel good, instead of ideas that make us think hard. We see disagreement as a threat to our egos, rather than an opportunity to learn.

Once I started, I listened all t way through!
I'm a dad, so I understand the profound importance on Mothers - and parenting, or being a guardian of any kind!
This book - and the superb performance - are a cherished gift in my life.
The stories and insights and vulnerable revelations all serve to remind me of many fundamental/universal truths about parenting and life in general.
I feel such deep gratiftude for the author - for her generous contribution to families, and to myself for choosing this book in the first place.
I'm already looking forward to listening again - this time with journal at hand :)

Some good ideas, hope it doesn't become a religion
The good, the author offers a fresh perspective on parenting. The intended audience (intentional or not) is very specific to higher income families. It's a doctor talking about some very unscientific things, like complaints about sugar highs. Totally agree with and have felt the "you do you" and comfort zone stuff.
The author mostly advocates going back to parenting as previous generations did it. My concerns: There's a middle ground between the distant, unwavering ruler of the household parenting and the parent servants of today; you just can't parent that way in many areas. You don't have the tools our parents and their parents probably had, like extended family, knowing their neighbors, religious fellowship with their neighbors. Plus, most of them hit. We can't and shouldn't go back.

This is an easy listen, she could have a career in narrating. I can only imagine how tough it must be when you are not an actress or performer but she is up there with the pros!!!
I loved that she mixed personal stories in with the advice. A lot of it things that seem so simple but I think could have a profound effect on the way I parent. So many things I had never thought of that could make motherhood so much more enjoyable. i would love to hear more from her in the future!!

A broad overview
This is a reflective broad overview rather than a step by step guide. It is well narrated with humour and respect. My takeaways were that too much choice overwhelms and that all phases of childhood pass and remember that as parent you are the adult. The interesting point was that the author has both teenage and small children and has honed her theoretical skills along the way
