Outstanding historical, thriller fiction. Music lover or not — this story is worth listening to.

Wonderful snapshot into two time periods - 1920’s NY City music and production scene; and modern day research with investigation. Loved the characters. The narrator brought them to life. (I especially loved Ebony’s NYC accent and attitude!) Justice eventually served … only too late for a brilliant composer who was taken advantage of — and who lacked supportive for her prolific talent. Relevant then, relevant now. Thanks so very much to the author and narrator.

Loved the story and characters, but soooo long!

If you choose this listen be ready for a commitment. It was long, but worth the time. Listen until the very end (the author's note is on point). I'm really enjoying Brendan Slocumb as an author. He incorporates 3 things I love, a good mystery, music, and characters that don't meet the "status quo."

Great, and tragic, story!

I listened to this right after The Violin Conspiracy. It did not disappoint. Well written and narrated, going back and forth in time. I won’t add spoilers, but many parts of this broke my heart. I so appreciate the author’s note at the end as well.

Brilliant Multi-Faceted Story!

The story touches on so many aspects of American society in the context of not only music, but also freedom from oppression, exploitation, and the often overlooked issued of stolen generational wealth, stolen legacy. At the same time, it was very entertaining with a fluid story line that was easy to follow, even with two time periods. Looking forward to Slocum’s next masterpiece. Chante McCormick’s performance puts her the category of Audio Books I’m more likely to buy due the talent of the narrator.

Brendan Slocumb is a great writer who brings the stories life and the untold truth This book is about above all else people who don’t have a clear language for all to understand. Chante’ McCormick is now one of my favorite narrators ever she killed it in every way. Thank you both
