Publisher's Summary

When you’re born without a trace, no one knows you’re a weapon.

I lie for her.

I hunt for her.

I kill for her.

And above all, I betray my mission for her.

She doesn’t know why. She doesn’t care why.

I do.

Treason comes in many forms.

Love is one of them.

Our training taught me to be a sociopath. A machine. A pawn. Nothing more than a tool for a larger goal, without attachments or feelings.

Our teachers forgot one important detail:

Pawns shouldn’t have hearts.

Yet we do.

It turns out our emotions are our greatest weapon.

And I know exactly where mine are aimed.

The first in an all-new series by USA Today best-selling author Meli Raine.

What a great beginning

Melissa Raines has created the beginning of another wonderful suspense series. Building off previous books (yet not needed to enjoy this one) we get an interesting world full of lies and deceit. Get ready, this is one wield read.

Cold Calculated Cunning

Growing up Stateless means you are cold, calculated and sometimes driven by the cause.

Stateless follows the graduating glass from a group recruits. This is not your average high school. Your every move is monitored. You are conditioned day in and day out to serve the mission. Punishments are swift and severe. Whatever you do you don’t want to be seen as week.

The story really centers on 3 main students Callum the smart, handsome obvious star pupil and twins Kina and Glenn. One viewed as weak one so cut off from emotion she will do anything to get ahead. With the final test and ultimately their field assignments around the corner it’s literal fight for survival.

The ending makes you excited for book 2.

Andi Ardnt and Joe Arden are genius. I would listen to them read the phone book with a smile on my face. Absolute top notch performances!

Interesting Premise

This story has an interesting premise and an intertwined plot of good vs. evil. Its so well written that you feel the character's own sense of confusion at knowing who to trust.

Just meh...

I started listening to this because of Andi Arndt and Joe Arden. A bit slow and a ton repetitive. Very predictable. Maybe for the youth, it would be more engaging. What’s up with writers always making females weak and allowing them to accept their fate? Perhaps it is just me, but I am tired of the mean women tearing down each other. And the entire theme is just so far fetched.

Not Again

I never want to read about a group that thinks they can take over the world by making their members into sociopaths. It's a stupid supposition that can't work because HUMANS ARE A SOCIAL SPECIES. We need social connection and not having it effects our mental and physical health. We developed heart disease, anxiety, and infants fail to thrive if not given enough attention. I had to stop because the premise was too silly to overlook.

What is the truth? Show no emotions or you're considered weak! Who do you trust?. A great start to this amazing series by Meli Raoine
Andi Arndt and Joe Arden are excellent narrators. telling the story with such emotion. They bring the angst, raw emotion and personality to each character.

What a thrill!

I was happy to get the whole trilogy. Two of my fave narrators, in a very interesting plot mixing hidden facility, child training and worldwide conspiracy, what not to like. Especially with a bit of romance–and mild steamy scenes.

I was also prepared for the darker undertones. It goes with the genre. And nothing is too graphic, though you’ll get some blood and death, and more disturbing things–like the whole mindset behind Stateless, oh my god. But the atmosphere is fascinating, and the writing quite good. It’s a good story, period.

The characters are interesting. They’re twisted and conflicted, they hide things and reveal others. They’re very complex and their stories and interactions are at the heart of the book. And it’s because of that that the big plot, the political conspiracy, may come to an untimely end. What a thrill!

Narrators are excellent, as always, especially the female narrator.

I can’t wait to listen to the second book of the series!

Interesting start to the trilogy

This is a trilogy and must be read in order. This was an intriguing start to the trilogy and done so well by the narrators, Joe Arden and Andi Arndt. I have both the ebook and the audiobook and I have to say that the narrators really bring this book to life!

The trilogy follows a cast of characters, including Kina and Callum, two recruits at Stateless, an organization that aims to infiltrate governments to carry out missions that are crucial to peace (hmm or are they?) The book itself spans a few years, from their younger years and shows us where they end up. There are a few trigger issues (harassment, abuse, etc) so beware but the book is really well written and the story is so intriguing. I do think that people will get more out of the series if they listened to prior stories and there were some areas that were a bit long. But overall, I'm interested to see what will happen in the next 2 books.

Grab the ENTIRE series now! You'll need to ASAP!!!

Man oh man!! Meli Raine sure left me feeling teased and a bit tortured! I'm literally uncomfortable listening to this book! It could be because I don't trust any of them. If you read/listen to this and you're feeling a bit... disjointed... or possibly confused? Join the club! However, listening to the other books in the connected series does make me feel as though I know a bit more than a reader picking up Stateless as their first Meli Raine book. Yes, yes... this is a standalone trilogy but it is connected, slightly by some references and some shared secondary characters, you'll also hear loose storyline from the other books, starting with the Harmless Little Series, then the Shameless Little series and finally, this series. OK sorry... I didn't mean to ramble to much!!

These two narrators can do no wrong in my eyes! I love them together and consistently enjoy their portrayals of the various characters they play. This story is layered and drenched in doubt and misdirection. Joe Arden is Cullum now and may be for a while depending on how I feel for him after this next book in the series. Andi Arndt is one of the best female narrators out there currently. Her voice always works for the woman she's presenting. She seems to channel them flawlessly. She became Kina... insecure and kind of meek but with this steely spine that comes out when it needs too.

🎧Review for Audiobook Obsession 🎧

I started to give up on this story a couple characters in, i was a little confused, the story a little slow, but all at once the picture came into my mind a pieces started falling in place. Young adults, living in communal, there roles being taught to them, dog it dog attitudes. Lies they have been fed, till they reach a crossroad and a new vision appears, and we come to a cliffhanger. I must know where this leads. Answers have be around the corner. Right?
Bravo to Andi & Joe, excellent narration.

State Less

When you are taught something from birth or childhood most never question it, no matter how violent it is. Especially when your also taught everyone else is against you. Kina and Callum are entering the end of their training in book 1 and getting ready to find out their futures in statless. In the final challenge 1 from their group must die in order for the mission to be considered a success. Kina is considered weak, but she and Callum have a connection. This is not allowed in statless, so they must hide any feeling for anyone including how Kina feels for her twin sister. This series is so intense its hard to put it down, and pushed me through the whole series just to find out how it all turned out. Great job on the narration, it made the story so easy to listen to. Thanks Audiobook Obsession for the recommendation.

enjoyed the narration so much

This is not my first book by this author. I enjoy her writing and the worlds she is able to create. I enjoyed seeing familiar characters that just made me like the story so much more. While this did not necessarily end in a "cliffhanger" it left feeling somewhat unfinished and looking for more books. Andi Arndt and Joe Arden were wonderful and the narration was done very well. I can't wait to delve into the next book in this trilogy.

Young spies

Meli does a fantastic job in creating this world where young toddlers are trained for “the mission.” They are taught from a young age that feelings and attachments are a bad thing. This is an excellent introduction to this series, and both Joe and Andi do an amazing job with the narrative.

Not a stand alone

This is the second series I've listened to by Meli Raine. Stateless is not a stand alone and it doesn't end in a settled place. The second book must pick up right where this one leaves off. Stateless has a dystopian feeling, like Hunger Games or Divergent, so I'm interested to see how stateless differentiates itself from those series. I like that meaning of the title fits the story well.

The narration is great. I preferred listening to it at a faster pace, which is easy to do with Audible. I like having dual narrators for dual points of view.

Stateless

Stateless is the first book in the new trilogy by Meli Raine. I was surprised to see characters from Meli's other series in this book. This book is told in a dual point of view between Kina and Callum. It's a unique storyline with spies and missions and lots of danger and suspense along with the beginning of a romance between Kina and Callum thrown in the mix. It kept me on the edge of my seat from the beginning to the cliffhanger at the end. Luckily, I have the next book in this trilogy waiting for me to hit play.

It doesn't get much better than Joe Arden and Andi Arndt. They are wonderful performers and did an amazing job bringing this story to life.

Fantastic start!

Listening to Meli Raine is like kryptonite to me. I love her romantic suspense. This one left me with a million questions and a yearning to keep going to find the answers. Kina and Callum live on a compound where they have been separated from society and trained to take down the government.Kina is the underestimated girl and is left behind to care for new recruits. Callum is though to be a strong force and will produce well. But what this not counted on is the bond between Kina and Callum. This cult like story had me at the very beginning. Listening, I need to find out all the answers! Raine has masterfully intertwined so many avenues, each one opening new questions. Giving us all the backstory in this segment is setting us up for some good listening and I can't wait to hear it.

With narration by Andi Arndt and Joe Arden, you know it's going to be good. These seasoned performers get it done leaving us with all the angst and wonder. They are going to continue to bring it on and I am looking forward to it!
