It's Labor Day in Blewestown, Alaska, and it seems most of the town's 3,500 residents have turned out to celebrate - or to cause trouble. Not Liam Campbell, though. He's checking out the local watering hole in his new town. He's finally made it out of Newenham and is ready for a quiet life with his wife.

He's been in town for about a week when an archaeologist invites him out to his dig site outside of town. He's on the verge of a momentous discovery, one he says will be worth the state trooper's time.

Two days later, the archaeologist is dead, murdered on his own dig site. And Liam Campbell is about to learn that he's traded one troubled bush town for another.

It is so good to have this Alaska saga back! I’ve missed all the characters and it picked up pretty close to where it ended. I hope we hear more from all of them with more books to come

More please!

The book starts out well, with the main characters moving to a new town and meeting a new cast of characters. Murder occurs. Liam takes steps towards solving the crime. Then the solution is dropped into his lap and the book ends. It makes you wonder if a deadline had to be met, so it had to be wrapped up quickly. There was no satisfaction of seeing the puzzle pieces click into place or a trap closing around the perpetrator. At no time was the protagonist in danger. I really like Stabenow’s writing and know she can do better than this. I hope the next Kate or Liam book is back on track.

Crime solution too abrupt

As a Kate Shugak &Liam Campbell fan this isn't a bad book. It is just a lazy one, and there isn't much to it. Liam doesn't even solve the crime. If this was the first Dana Stabenow that I had never read I wouldn't be inclined to read another.

Lazy

I didn’t enjoy the story line as much as the previous 5 books in this series, but it was nice to meet old friends (characters in the books are very compelling) again and know what happened to them

Good to meet old friends again
