loving book 2 and the continuation of the story of this rag-tag group of hoppers.

A great second book

The world building and magic system are intricate. Great book. I really enjoyed it. I can't wait to listen to book three.

Waiting for mc to be badass

Don't get me wrong, I still enjoyed it. But for a second book, I am still waiting for badassery.

Annoying Characters

maybe its intentionally, but I hated the side characters to the point of skip their section to point of wishing them to die.

I loved the references to other sci-fi movies and novels. Rob J. Hayes hits it home with this second book to Titan Hoppers.

Orphans of the Sky meets D&D

A starship-borne society subsists by scavenging from Titans, giant interstellar ships with very active internal defenses. This scavenging is the province of "Hoppers", people with magical (?) powers defined by their classes and levels. And while this society has maintained itself for longer than anyone can remember, it is beginning to look like the system is breaking down.

To complicate this, there are at least two separate groups of Hoppers, from different fleets of ships, who are competing for the available resources. And the competition is not peaceful.

The characters here are drawn well. The book focuses on four young Hoppers with idiosyncratic powers, who are not the favorites of the powers that be. In the course of facing their challenges, we see strong character development.

While the instant plot covers the exploits of these characters, there are hints of a deeper plot and a much more complex background: why are these people traveling in a "ragtag fugitive fleet"? The only significant problem I have with the series is that there has not been enough of that backstory revealed so far.

This series is quirky, and not at all the sort of thing that I would have bought solely on a backcover blurb. But it's innovative and engaging enough that I plan to continue to the next book. Recommended.

I want to open my gates now!

So titans hoppers to urges readers to want gates more than they did when might guy and rock lee showed off. The powers seems so vivid and cool. Seconded only by the ever expanding mystery of the universe building. Small things like not know trees or how to swim enforce the life aboard a ship in space. But the big power gaps, the scaling the rules are complex unknowns that are dragging me to the next one. What are the rules of power for gates and how much do we know or even the characters we know so far know? It’s a motley crew becoming colleagues and found family a mind political warscapes across classist ships. I’m excited for the next one and is a dope fun read.
