Publisher's summary

1878: When his family loses their home, to Jack Roberts, who has grown up hearing stories of the Crimean war and the magnificent charge of the Heavy Brigade, the choice between working in a dangerous factory or enlisting in the army and putting on the famed red uniform is an easy one. But when fighting for Queen and Country takes him far from home to defending a small mission station from overwhelming numbers, it is anything but easy and bravery and stoicism take on new meaning.

Good fun

Good story, nice pace and a fun adventure. Too bad the next book in the series is not on Audible.

Solid story -likable and noble characters

Really have grown to appreciate the author's noble characters and clean writing style. You don't always have to overcomplicate a plot or deploy corinthian language. The Parthenon used doric columns and that worked out just fine. To Griff, love your novels on vikings and knight but especially found this Victorian era book very exciting.

Imaginative topic - Thank You.

A solid, well written story. Very different in that the author found something I hadn’t heard about. In a long time.
The Empire of Great Britain, like all great countries, is composed of normal people that somehow come together and do extraordinary things. Which in turn makes them extraordinary.
