I actually love the little openers for the chapters. Mickie and Damie crack me up!

Oh yeah, I was so engrossed that someone could have dropped a house on me and I wouldn't have noticed.

Where there is a Morgan, trouble is likely not far behind.

Quinn Morgan is the odd man out when it comes to his very loud, very large Irish Catholic family. His father is a high ranking official with the police department, most of his siblings, of which there are many, are cops as well. There is the black sheep that became a fireman, teenage rebellion and the need to be different than his brother’s and sister’s. But Quinn, he has always had trouble trying to find his own place in this world. The one thing that kept him grounded, centered as a youth was Rafe Andrade. The two always shared a bond, so when Rafe took his leave to recognize his dream of being a Rock Star, it affected Quinn and not in a good way.

Rafe Andrade is a transplant Morgan, again, one of many. Brigid and Donal Morgan, the matriarchs of this large Irish family, are fierce, loyal and loving; not only with their own brood, but with their children’s friends and partners as well. And while Donal is a force to be reckoned with, you do not want to piss off the five foot tall red headed Irish woman that is Brigid Morgan. When Rafe took off for greener pastures, losing his way and making some devastating mistakes, the Morgan’s welcomed him back with open arms. But Rafe has continued to struggle with his past mistakes, and the one that has torn him apart most was walking away from Quinn.

As with all the books in this series, I am in love with the Irish baroque, the camaraderie between brothers and friends, and the unwavering commitment they all have to each other. Even if some of them do their damndest to state otherwise, Yes Mickie, I’m talking to you! A few twists with this story, the usual form of threat for the family is changed up and I honestly didn’t even see the threat to Quinn as what it turned out to be. Also, Brigid gets caught in the crossfire of another Morgan catastrophe, and I tell you what, watching all these big, brooding, alpha males cower in the wake of Brigid being hurt, it was very moving. She is the glue that holds them all together, and you have not seen anything yet to prepare you for the level of pissed off when someone accidently hits mama.

Of course it’s a wild ride, there is a lot of passion and emotions run high, that’s par for the course with this group. What is different is the characters and their struggles. I really enjoy it when an author continues to evolve and show variety for a series that is going in a specific direction. Change it up, give the reader something new and fresh to keep you chomping at the bit for more. Once Quinn and Rafe stop fighting the pull to each other, get past the past, and ignore all the Morgan men that are warning them off each other, Katie bar the door!

Must read series, I highly recommend it; it’s a series where I’ve read the different books multiple times myself. You have to read them in order though or you’ll miss a lot of character interaction and won’t understand some of the things that are said or insinuated throughout. I hope we get at least one more book in this series, there are still a few loose threads to be neatly cut and folded. Now I will just sit back and wait for the audio, I cannot wait for Tristan James to sink his teeth into Rafe and Quinn!

Audio review addition 12/09/2015

I have listened to every book in this series as well as reading them and I have to say, there is something about Tristan James voice and his ability to nail the Irish accent impeccably that takes these books to a whole other level. Not only does he perform a flawless accent, he changes it with subtle tones and nuances for each character. There are a LOT of Morgan's running around, so trust me when I say, he did an amazing job.

This is probably my favorite series in the genre that translates from paper to audio where I've read and listened to them all, several times. The reason I say my favorite is because you get something different from each form (book and audio) I heard things I missed when reading, and things took on a different meaning when spoken in that thick Irish Brogue as well.

Definite a must read and listen series. There is murder, mayhem, passion, romance, brotherhood, a strong family bond, blood, guts and a whole lot of twisted, pleasurable bedroom gymnastics. Translated... fast paced, action packed and smexy!

So I've had the first book of the series for awhile but kept finding other things to read. I often find myself not finishing a series because I get bored.
I started this series on Monday and finished all of them by Friday morning. I was mad that I had to work and sleep. Yes, it was that awesome.
I really can't gush over Tristan James enough. He did an amazing job keeping all the characters distinct, even with all the different accents. I will definitely be following his work.
As far as the stories, Rhys Ford made each one unforgettable. I know they will be on repeat for me. I generally don't like a lot of angst in the actual relationship of the main characters. I prefer my angst to come from outside forces that help bind the characters together and strengthen their bond. And that is really how all these books are.
Though the sex scenes were plentiful and sizzling hot, the story and plot were the best part. I loved how all the books intertwined but really focused on each different relationship. The supporting characters were awesome. Especially Mum and Da.
I now have 8 new book boyfriends and I really can't choose one over the other. I wish this series could continue forever.

Great new addition to series

So there are at least two black sheep in the Morgan family: Quinn because he’s a professor and his brother the fireman. But that’s not all keeping Quinn separate. His brain is wired a bit differently and this makes him socially awkward to say the least.

We have met Rafe from his friendship with Kane, the Morgan that fell for Miki in book one. Rafe and Quinn have always been friends, but Quinn has had a crush on him that sometimes led to some dark moments. Especially when Rafe left to follow his dreams of being a rock star.

Rafe’s dark times involve addiction, one that he barely masters to this day. But he is on the road to recovery and is interested in possibly rejoining the music scene with Sinner’s new band and – most importantly – he’s finally ready to acknowledge and deal with his feelings for Quinn.

But – since these are the Morgans we’re talking about – there is someone out to kill Quinn- or at least kill people in his life. So… Rafe has to deal with Damien’s distrust, the Morgan’s overprotectiveness and his own demons. Quinn has convince his family he can make good decisions and trust Rafe not to let him down.

OMG! So this is my favorite series of Rhys Ford’s. I love the bratty/prickly/tender mix the guys in the band exude. The music seems such a lovely back-drop for their neuroses and the foil of the tough/alpha/pragmatic cop really works for me.

In this story the mix is a bit different. Rafe is the musician but Quinn is no pragmatic alpha-dog. Both are wounded and tender. Quinn’s mind is like this complex kaleidoscope and it’s both beautiful and bewildering. Rafe – even with his monsters on his back – is able to ground and be grounded by Quinn. You might think it’s a co-dependency, but both are actually quite strong in the presence of the other.

Rhys’ writing is as lyrical and beautiful as ever. So very descriptive and immersive.

Now that we are a few stories into the series, we get to re-visit with our previous MCs – especially Miki and Kane – and it’s wonderful! God – Miki is hysterical and Damien such a little tyrant at times. I loved having them in the story and getting to see them from “the outside” as it were, from the eyes of someone NOT in love with them. ☺

I find the Morgan dynamic to be so compelling and I reveled in the relationship between Miki/Brigid/Quinn and watching Donal play his role in their complex relationship as well. Fascinating.

Since I always listen to these with the wonderful Tristan James as narrator, my brain filled in the voices with his lovely brogue and I can’t wait for the real thing. Such an amazing experience.

Though I’m sure someone new to the series could start with this book and follow, it’s absolutely best to read in sequence. There would be so much LOST without the back information.

For fans of the series, the author and people interested in a poetic look at two imperfect souls finding love – I highly recommend this book.

Tristan James does this entire series and his narrations are TO DIE FOR! I love, love, love his accents and the timber and cadence of his voice. Amazingly, he’s able to differentiate for us auditorily (is that a word?) the different Morgans, Damien and Sionn! So. Awesome! This was an absolute delight and the BEST way to experience this book!

nything but a Sloe Ride

Quinn, His character is so complex.

He is one of my all time favorites. He does great..

Who was the most memorable character of Sloe Ride and why?

Same as above although Donal is always a great character too.

A remarkable book

My goodness, I love the colourful writing style of this author.
Quinn and Rafe are the fourth book in this series and I'm not tired of reading about the Morgan's and their extended family. The fierce mother of the family is my heroine, loving all the family and protective as a lioness.
Quinn is the odd sibling that doesn't fit in with the other who are cops and he is a professor. But he's always been in love with Rafe who's a rockstar on recovery from his drug addictions. Rafe has a eye on Quinn too but afraid of what his friends will say if he hits on their brother.
The story is as always great, romance, crime, sweetness, all wrapped up in a remarkable book. I especially loved this book because of the description of Quinn as a introvert person is so meaningful (at least to me) and the way Rafe loves him the way he is. Can't say anymore without giving away to much. But as you can understand I very much recommend this book.
And now I've learned there's a fifth book coming.....hurray!!!!!

so far this is my favorite of the series, I'm not sure exactly why, but the relationship between Rafe and Quinn is beautiful to me

Recording has issues

Throughout the story the recording quality dropped slightly and came back up. Enough to notice and make wonder what happened. It didn't detract too badly from the overall effect.
