With 12 hellhounds after her, pregnant Charley Davidson takes refuge at the only place she thinks they can't get to her: the grounds of an abandoned convent. But after months of being cooped up there, Charley is ready to pop. Both metaphorically and literally, since she is now roughly the size of a beached whale. Fortunately a new case has captured her attention, one that involves a murder on the very grounds the team has taken shelter upon.

As a part-time PI and full-time grim reaper, Charley Davidson has asked a lot of questions throughout her life: Why can I see dead people? Who is the hot supernatural entity following me? And since those gods are on earth to kill her daughter, she has little choice but to track them down, trap them, and cast them from this dimension. There's just one problem. One of the three stole her heart a very long time ago.

Charley Davidson, Grim Reaper extraordinaire, is pissed. She’s been kicked off the earthly plane for eternity - which is the appropriate amount of time to make a person stark-raving mad. But someone’s looking out for her, and she’s allowed to return after a mere hundred years in exile. Is it too much to hope for that not much has changed? Apparently it is. Bummer.

Story
A smashing, award-winning debut novel that introduces Charley Davidson: part-time private investigator and full-time Grim Reaper. Charley sees dead people. That’s right, she sees dead people. And it’s her job to convince them to “go into the light”. But when these very dead people have died under less than ideal circumstances (i.e. murder), sometimes they want Charley to bring the bad guys to justice. Complicating matters are the intensely hot dreams she’s been having about an Entity who has been following her all her life...and it turns out he might not be dead after all.

Publisher's Summary
Sometimes I wrestle my demons. Sometimes we just snuggle. (Bumper Sticker)
Most girls might think twice before getting engaged to someone like Reyes Farrow - but Charley Davidson is not most girls. She’s a paranormal private eye and grim-reaper-in-training who’s known to be a bit of a hell-raiser, especially after a few shots of caffeine. Her beloved Reyes may be the only begotten son of evil, but he’s dark and sultry and deeply sexy and everything Charley could hope for. Really. But when the FBI file on Reyes’ childhood happens to land into her lap, she can’t help herself: She opens it...and then the real fun begins. First, Charley finds a naked corpse riding shotgun in her car. Then, a man loses his soul in a card game. Throw in a deaf boy who sees dead people, a woman running from mobsters, and a very suspicious Reyes, and things can’t get any worse for Charley. Unless, of course, the 12 Beasts of Hell are unleashed.…

This book could change EVERYTHING!
I held off on the fifth book for the sole purpose of evading the cliffhanger, yet here I am experiencing exactly what I wanted to avoid—a horrible hangover that’s going to last five months. Ok, so I know it’s bad form to start a review off by talking about the ending, but holy geez how can I not? I mean… the series just completely changed directions because of one revelation! I always feel like Darynda Jones leaves readers with more questions than answers, and that’s the case yet again with SIXTH GRAVE ON THE EDGE. As usual, this installment is packed with so many plot threads that trying to figure out how Lorelei King managed to cover them all in under 10 hours just might make your head explode.
It’s been a while since I’ve mentioned the entertaining quotes this author uses at the beginning of each chapter, so it’s definitely worth repeating. Jones also takes it a step further in this installment with the addition of hashtags which I LOVED! Then there were the countless references to Charley’s coffee addiction that always make me feel like we’re sisters-from-another-mother. All of the spork jokes cracked me up too! The author also delves deeper into the powers of the reaper, and if you thought Davidson was badass before, just wait until you learn what other tricks she has up her sleeve. And then, there’s the mystery surrounding the prophesies, the daughter of light, and the twelve. Yes, we get some answers, but mostly it’s just more questions.
Charley’s got her hands full once again in this installment with a naked dead man riding shotgun in Misery, her on-going child abduction case, Reyes’ looming question, and then there’s The Dealer. Ooh, and of course let’s not forget that Angel’s true past comes to light, there’s news on the Mr. Wong front, and in the midst of all this chaos Charley is also playing matchmaker to Cookie and Ubie. Needless to say, life as the Grim Reaper is never dull! But, leave it to Reyes Farrow to totally eclipse the entire action packed story line with his hot self. I love how far his and Davidson’s relationship has come through the course of this series, and I think the ending of this book will be a step in the right direction for them, even though the world might not agree.
When it comes to audiobooks I consider myself somewhat of a slow listener, but I had no problems finishing SIXTH GRAVE ON THE EDGE in a day thanks to Lorelei King’s exquisite narration. Her pitch is perfectly suited for Jones’ writing style, and her voice couldn’t be any more CHARLEY DAVIDSON if she tried. You can tell that she’s having a blast while in the studio recording these, and that really comes through in her performances. It doesn’t matter whether it’s an action or sex scene; King always gives it her all which is why pre-ordering this audiobook was a no-brainer.
SIXTH GRAVE ON THE EDGE ends with a big surprise that will leave you reeling in the possibilities. I’m telling you, this could change EVERYTHING! #holyshit

One of My Favorite Series!!! 6 STARS all around!
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes Yes Yes! But sadly not many of my friends that are avid readers as I am are very interested in paranormal books. But I have told them this is the series to start.
Who was your favorite character and why?
This is a hard one. I think it's Cookie in most of them, definitely in this one because sh just cracks me up with everything that comes out of her mouth.
What does Lorelei King bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Her delivery is spot on. Her voices are perfect. She's perfect.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I laughed throughout this entire book. I alway do with this series.
Any additional comments?
worth the credit. I listened to this one straight through.

I really wanted to like this one. . .
I've been on the fence about this series since the beginning and the thing that keeps me coming back is Lorelei King. She's a wonderful narrator and I cannot say enough good things about her. There are a lot of cliffhangers in this book. There is nothing wrong with well written cliffhangers, but the sub plot with her father didn't feel like a cliffhanger as much as it felt like something that was going to go somewhere and then ended up getting edited out. I'm guessing there will be more about him in the next book? Charley's inner monologues also drive me nuts. They drive me nuts because in some of them she sounds smart and on the ball, while in others she sounds like an absolute idiot. I'm on the fence about the next one. I'm just not sure.

You SO have to read this book!!!
Would you listen to Sixth Grave on the Edge again? Why?
Yes. I have listened to the whole series more than once. It is so entertaining and the characters are so fun! Charlie Davidson is my hero. Think I'm in love with Reyes with Swopes as the runner up. Angel is a typical teen, Artamis is fun, Cookie works so well with Charlie, and the list goes on!
What other book might you compare Sixth Grave on the Edge to and why?
I can't....never read anything like this series. This is a contemporary, fantasy, romance, mystery, comedy and more.
What about Lorelei King’s performance did you like?
I FEEL BAD FOR PEOPLE WHO READ THE BOOK VERSION BECAUSE LORELEI KING BRINGS EVERYTHING TO LIFE! Seriously, Charlie's character would not be as endearing and fun if you don't have the full inflection of her quirky thoughts and sarcasm.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
"I'm in love with the son of the devil and don't have any regrets...he'll do the right thing...eventually. Being with him may destroy the universe, or give satan a free pass to this world, but I totally got this."
Any additional comments?
If you have not read this series, you need to-from 1st Grave on the Right all the way through to this one. The books are fun and VERY entertaining, upbeat and sarcastic, but the subject matter makes for a great mystery aspect. The main character is a strong female who is such a good person, but she is embroiled in the most dangerous people/creatures. I can't say enough about this series. TOTALLY WORTH IT !!

It's just getting better!!!
What made the experience of listening to Sixth Grave on the Edge the most enjoyable?
Lorelei King is amazing and really makes the characters come alive. I have listened to everything she has read. Also Darynda Jones just has a gift for writing a Great story and making you laugh.
What did you like best about this story?
Everything. I adore these books. I haven't laughed so much in awhile while listening to a book. Probably the last time i laughed so hard was with her last book.
Which character – as performed by Lorelei King – was your favorite?
All the characters of course.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I laughed and laughed, I was ironing and I had to stop because I was laughing so hard at one point. I love it.
Any additional comments?
Thank you both Darynda Jones and Lorelei King for doing such a great job.

The best book of the series!
I love this series. Kind of Stephanie Plum-ish but at least heading in a direction. I read the reviews on this book and I was not surprised by the ending as there were small clues along the way but I was delighted that I was right - for a change. I would recommend reading this series in order but this book was entertaining enough to stand alone. So, if you like levity meets the grim-reaper, then this will be right up your alley!

Charley's FBI contact has spent nearly her entire career trying to solve her mentor's "Moby Dick" case. It was a baby abduction and she gives the file to Charley "I talk to dead people," in the hopes Charley can help solve it. When Charley opens the file, she opens up a big old can of "What the H-E-Double Hockey Sticks." I don't want to spoil any surprises but a clue is it will make my headline make sense.
The narration is tight and it's a great story
