Absolutely phenomenal – 100% worth the hype

Absolutely phenomenal—100% worth the hype! This book has been making waves on BookTok, and it completely delivered. The storyline pulls you in from the start and keeps you hooked all the way through—I definitely lost sleep over this one! The narration was strong overall, with each character brought to life beautifully. The only odd moment was a last-chapter switch in the male voice, but it didn’t take away from the overall performance.

The main female character experiences tremendous growth throughout the story. She’s not overly confident, but her determination to rise beyond her limits was inspiring and a joy to follow. The male lead was refreshing—not too broody, and his sense of humor added just the right touch of charm.

This was a unique fantasy read that quickly climbed to the top of my list. Be warned—it ends on a cliffhanger, but I highly recommend giving it a listen. I’ll definitely be watching for the next book!

The strength in the word No

I loved this book. I loved the growth of the heroin. From a dutiful daughter to saying no. The love from afar I could feel in the pages lead to a slow burn in the end. I can't not wait for book 2! This is a 3 book series.

Great book but rough narrating

I enjoyed the story and I’m excited to see how booked two will turn out. Really can go in a couple ways however, the male narrator, I could barely even hear at times and had to rewind constantly. It was grumbly and low and the tone didn’t go with the writing. Honestly if the book wasn’t as interesting as it was to me I would not have finished it due to the narration.

Skip the audiobook and read a physical copy

I’m hate that the very last chapter has a different male narrator. Why change it? To go along with that, the male narrator’s volume is significantly lower than the woman’s throughout the entire book. It makes it difficult to hear him. I’d honestly skip the audiobook and just read the physical copy. But the story is awesome! Wonderful world building and so many plot twists I didn’t see coming at the end!

Amazing story fella flat on audio…

I truly love this book. But listening to it was significantly less enjoyable than reading it, and I think it was the male voice actor for me. I won’t be mean and go into why, but it just wasn’t a fit for the characters. And his parts were SO QUIET I could barely hear him, while the female voice was normal volume. So weird. Maybe they’ll redo it someday.

Slow start, great world building, terrible male voice

The narrator for the male characters was awful, but the female was wonderful! And the book had a slow build, but I can’t wait to read the next one. A little predictable, but an enjoyable read overall. Also, be ready for a ton of rhetorical questions. So many questions all in a row.

Better book than audible but very good read.

I chose to read majority of this book due to the male narrator. I would have rather the women do both voices honestly.
His voice just did not fit the description of the male. I rarely like duel narrators in general because to fit both characters is hard.
The actual story and book were good. The work building and mystery that starts to unravel is interesting and has lots of room to develop into a full-fledged trilogy.

Isn't she lovelyyyyy... I absolutely DEVOURED "Shield of Sparrows"! I pre-ordered this stunning book trophy even though I listened to Audible. The plot, the characters, the world I just completely immersed myself! I absolutely loved Odessa's strength and The Guardian (insert drool". The Narrator's did such an amazing job bringing these characters to life! The more I read the more I wanted, but was devastated at the thought of this book ending.😭 Devney's writing is always beautiful however this was absolutely spectacular! @devneyperry you have found your niche! I am begging you for MORE! 💖

perfect narrator choice

I absolutely love Samantha Bretmoore as a narrator. she's got a very curious and mischievous quality to her.
also the premise of this story is so unique and I really enjoyed all the twists and turns.

I am obsessed and I cannot wait to find out what happens in the next book. I can’t even really talk about too much because it will give it away so because I don’t wanna do any spoilers, I will say things are not always as they seem some things need to be said sooner, and there are a lot of mysteries yet to be solved.
