Publisher's summary
The Mothers of Mariah Stark’s Coven insist she possesses an evil power. Mariah’s attempts to pull flowers from the Earth or heal injuries result in killing fields of crops and scorching flesh instead.
Called away by a prophecy, the young witch learns she must cloak her magic to protect her Sisters and their secret. But despite her best efforts, Mariah fails at maintaining a low profile in Wicker Creek, North Carolina. Now, as Mariah navigates her senior year of high school, vicious town darling Shelley Stallings and her minions seek to reveal Mariah for the witch they believe her to be. Such exposure could ruin the magical world — if Mariah doesn’t destroy it first.
While Finn Shepherd may not have magical powers, he’s on his own path to self-destruction. Struggling to cope with his father’s death, he abandons his passions for swimming and sketching and seeks solace in drugs, pissing away his chances at graphic design school as he lashes out at the people who love him most. His tunnel-vision blinds him — so he never sees Mariah coming.
What follows is a cycle of fated encounters. Mariah’s powers soften as she grows closer to Finn, and she wonders: Is he destined to save her from her ravenous inner darkness? And Mariah reminds Finn of who he used to be and the future he might pursue. But as Shelley relentlessly taunts Mariah, the dark side of her magic takes on a mind of its own...threatening anyone in its wake and driving Mariah to a choice that might unleash a force strong enough to shatter both the magical and ordinary worlds....

This. Was. AWESOME!
This. Was. AWESOME! Not to mention the hangover I am currently still nursing that needs the sequel to cure it. There is something about an audiobook that grabs you right from the start and whisks you away into the pages. There is witchcraft, romance, high school angst and an underlying evil that is waiting to explode (quite literally) out of Mariah's powers.
I am typically not one for fated or prophecy based love, let alone the teenage insta-swoonfest that most books seem to lean towards. This novel doesn't give me the willies though when Finn and Mariah connect. It lays a believable background that brings them together and stirs up your inner high school feels. First Date Mariah is SO me that I couldn't stop cheesy grinning as I listened along. You can just relate to these characters easily and I'm in my late 30s!
The writing style is smooth, the narration perfectly fits and it's told from the POVs of Finn and Mariah. Dealing with the loss of a parent, loss of a friend, accepting yourself, bullying, stereotypes and prejudices are a few topics that make their way through the plot line. I also want to mention a scene involving animal cruelty. It could be disturbing for younger readers.
This was such a great read for me and I highly recommend it in any format to my followers. This would've been my next binge series if I knew it existed when Stackhouse, Twilight and Fallen were making their rounds.

Slow Start
I received this as an audiobook to read for free in exchange for my honest review. Thank you to The Parliament House for giving me access.
She's Powerful Trouble had a slow start to me. The story didn't seem to go anywhere until the end...the part where you wanted more. In the books defense, I did not read the synopsis before hand and it just seem to take forever to figure out which direction the story was going.
The ending was very interesting and drew me in enough to want to know what happens next. I am looking forward to the sequel in hopes that the storyline flows better.

A witch and an outcast tell me more!
I received the audiobook free for review from Parliament House Press in return for an honest review.
It captured my interest from the very first chapter. I wanted to know all about Mariah and her powers. Her character development from beginning to end was great. She's an outcast but not scared to speak her mind. Scared of being herself add that she's a witch and in high school. Oof if i had her powers the bullies would be turned into toads. 🤷♀️
The story captured my interest from the very beginning. From the prologue all the way to end, I listened i was captivated and lost in the story. The characters are likable, told in two different points of views Mariah and Finns. Your feel their emotions the happy and sad moments. Dealing with grief loss of a parent and friend, the bullying, stereotypes, surviving high school with piranhas (bullies) judging every move Mariah makes.
We see character development in Finn and I was so happy I felt like he really needed an eye opener.
I can't wait to read book 2. I don't like writing spoilers and my mind is all over the place so I'll just say. I recommend this book or audiobook version.

Really good!
I loved listening to this audiobook, the narration was absolutely perfect. I could even listen on 1.8x speed with no issues. The story overall was enjoyable and left me wanting more! So I hope there’s a second book soon.
