First came the plague, then came the war.

When the guns went silent and the last bombs were dropped, billions were lost and the world had become unrecognizable.

Nine years later, Reid Flynn and his eight-year-old daughter, Hannah, live a protected life behind the walls and rules of their small hamlet, Deliverance. Life is hard there but safe...or so Reid thought, until Hannah showed the first symptoms of the plague.

Once someone was symptomatic with the plague, they'd die in a week's time. With the clock ticking and only the rumor of a cure a thousand miles away, Reid must leave with Hannah in hopes that he'll find the cure before the end of the seventh day.

I love post apocalyptic stories, and I'm always looking for new books and new authors in this territory. This one caught my eye, and for free I definitely had to check it out. It wasn't a perfect story, and the narrator wasn't perfect either, I found his reading of the characters daughter to be a little silly, but it held my attention and the twists and turns of the plot were very cohesive. I normally read a lot of King books, and while this wasn't on his level, it was a very good read and I would definitely recommend it. Will be checking out other books from this author!

Real simple; if you liked “The Road” then this book is for you. 3 very tight stories woven in a world of despair, desperation, and perseverance.

Very good!

Suspenseful story with relatable characters ... the story explores the wide range of human behaviors and adaptability.

Excellent read!

Seriously. If I could only say one thing about this book, it would be that you need to listen to the very, VERY end.

As for the book overall, another reviewer likened this book to a marriage between Alas Babylon and The Beach. I've read both and would have to agree, mostly. Like those books, Seven Days caught my attention from the very beginning and kept it all the way to an ending that, unlike most books, is not all rainbows and sunshine. Unlike The Beach, however, it's not all sadness and destruction, even though I was sure at one point that that was where this was headed (whew!)

The narration was awesome. The narrator wasn't the best with different voices but he did enough to make it clear which character was speaking (mostly). His timing and phrasing and overall performance were very nicely done, though, leading to a very enjoyable listen.

Make sure to listen until the VERY end.

Three storylines converge after a pandemic that kills in 7 days. A father looking for a cure for his daughter leaves a safe haven. A mother who left the country trying to get home to her family. A cannibal decides to change her life. What happens when their paths cross is exciting, intriguing and guarantees I'll be buying book 2. Narrator is great too.

Where's Book 2?
