Publisher's summary

An incredible new psychological crime thriller from the top 10 Sunday Times best-selling author.

A race against time to save her child....

In seven days, Maggie’s son, Max, turns three. But she’s not planning a party or buying presents or updating his baby book. She’s dreading it. Because in her world, third birthdays are the days on which the unthinkable happens...she loses her child.

For the last 12 years Maggie has been imprisoned in a basement. Abducted aged 15, she gave birth to two sons before Max, and on their third birthdays her captor came and took them from her.

She cannot let it happen again. But she has no idea how to stop it. And the clock is ticking....

Let's talk about the elephant in the room

It's not that I didn't enjoy this book, I am just wondering why nobody has mentioned that is almost identical in several ways to The Room by Emma Donoghue. I didn't see it mentioned in any of the reviews. So, let me say it. The story as a lot of the same plot points as The Room.

Excellent

I really enjoyed this audiobook. Totally suspenseful from beginning to end. I loved following the characters’ lives as the story progressed. Every word had me hooked and though I couldn’t wait to find out what happened at the end...I did not want this book to end! Highly recommended.

WOW!!! Absolutely LOVED IT.

This has quickly become one of my new all time favorite Audible novels I've had the pleasure of listening to. I found myself literally gripping the edge of my seat more and more. Experienced a number of emotions, I felt like I was right there with the main character! So thorough, well thought out and descriptive. The narrator was fantastic with a wide range of voices made each character believable. WELL DONE. If you love the psychological thriller/mystery genre like I do, don't hesitate to get this one!

Had me on the edge of my seat

I deducted 1 star from performance because the narrator's nose whistling while she was breathing would bother me so much sometimes. I'm very weird about noises like that, I know I'm probably super picky. Most of the time I didn't hear it and it was fine, but there were times that it was really bad and I had to force myself to not focus on it. The story was so good. I was so engrossed in it, and felt so sad by the entire thing, knowing that these things happen. For those that are bothered by stories about abduction, abuse and rape, this probably isn't the book for you. There was not extreme detail or anything, but there was mention of the act several times and could be bothersome. I will definitely be checking out other books by this author.

i requested a refund

this book was disgusting.**SPOILER ALERT** i don't want to listen about a young girl getting kidnapped, held captive, raped repeatedly, having multiple babies that get murdered.

I stayed with this book, but it was difficult...

It started off alright... I became intrigued and wanted to see how it developed later. The problem was, the part we'd been waiting for, took FOREVER to finally come. I found the villain to be rather one-dimensional, and we read the same conversations over and over.
