Mr. And Mrs. Smith … the cyborg version

From the end of the previous book:
Seth: “Aramus and hot looking naked girl in his bed, I’d like you to meet Anastasia, my wife.”
Anastasia: “Ex.”
Seth: “Now darling, you know I don’t believe in divorce.”
Anastasia: “-and I’m fine becoming a widow.”

This story is best enjoyed having experienced roguish Seth over the course of the series, or at least the previous book (Aramus), featuring Seth’s best buddy / frenemy. This book had the most developed plot in the series, which was great. This book also relied on flashbacks, which was somewhat disorienting.

While this and the previous books are the best of the series, there are still a few quibbles. Per usual, the go-to angst for the FMC’s backstory is sex abuse (it’s vaguely described, but disappointing and unoriginal nonetheless). The series narration went from two narrators to one (and worse: the final two books for Adam and Avion are done with Virtual Voice). Finally, I never quite got over the comic book feel, which made the chemistry and romance stay in the shallow end of the romance pool.
