Publisher's Summary

A killer with a white picket fence.

Suburbia, a great place for a man with secrets to hide - while investing in some solid real estate. The biggest drawback?

Neighbors.

In this case, a neighbor with sexy curves and a bright smile. Good thing she's not his type. Single moms with annoying exes are on the do-not-date list.

Stay away.

Calvin wants to; it's just not happening. He can't help but find himself drawn to the chaos next door. And when danger threatens his suburban lifestyle, this assassin doesn't hesitate to act.

Killing people is easy. Domestication, on the other hand, terrifies him.

Listen at 1.25x speed

The Narrator sounded pretty weird at first but when I listened at 1.25x speed she sounded fine. The story itself was cute and worth a listen.

So much fun!

I’ve been over loaded on angsty reads lately, and this book was just the cure I needed. It was fun, funny, and sweet and hot by turns! I’m moving on to the others and. This series.

Highly Recommend

I loved this book. It is well written, fast moving, has brilliantly developed characters and while themed around assasination and killing - it was sort of tongue in cheek (which I realise seems weird), and a light easy read. I actually think that this is the first book in a while that I have found riveting, I just wanted to keep reading. The heroine was believable and while she had some issues, the author at no point treated her like she was an idiot. Even when there was a TSTL moment, this was acknowledged, which sort of made it fine. The topic of domestic and family violence was handled very respectfully and it takes a talented author, to be able to write a strong, alpha male lead who at no point uses coercion or bullying to get what he wants, he is just respectful and clear. I love an author that doesn’t base the plot around some bullshit miscommunication.

A great action packed love story

Eve Langlais did another great job as a story teller. This story had ALOT of situation those people that survive domestic violence or being with an aggressive person that gaslights their victims & abuses their respect position in the community.. This story will make you cheer. Worth a credit.. yes

Love this book!!!

I love this book because the Hero is an honest to goodness killer for hire! He is not your typical hero which makes him incredibly interesting to me. Narration is great. I like the ending and what happens to the villain, her ex husband. I will listen to this book again which is my endorsement of it. It is a “keeper”.

Entertaining

Lots of cliches & stereotypes but enough suspense, action and humor to keep the audiobook entertaining. Really liked the narrator’s performance.

It’s a great listen

Eve does it again. Another 5 star listen. In this one Eve shows her sarcastic funny side . Her stories are amazing and this is no different. Right when you think the guy next door is just as normal as you and I you find out differently. Calvin is the hero. He lives out in the suburbs where there is plenty of land. He’s an assassin who will do anything for the right money . He’s a realtor who is successful. There is one drawback. He has a sexy neighbour who he knows he can’t get to close Lily is his neighbour who is divorced with a kid . Lilly has a problem with her ex and his outlook. Does Calvin help Lilly with her problem Rebecca was great reading this !!

hero is a stalker, heroine is dumb as a rock

I love the idea behind this book, an assassin living next door to a single mom and falling in love with her is an adorable premise. Unfortunately, it's the only likeable thing about The Assassin Next Door. Bad boys Inc is a terrible name but a great concept for a series. **spoilers** During the course of this book our "hero": - Tries to convince himself Lily might be a lesbian because she's not interested in him inviting himself over. - Calls a woman escaping a violent marriage "silly" for having objections to dating. - Gets drunk and incredibly hungover multiple times. - Points a loaded rifle at her house so he can watch her. - Intentionally antagonizes her violent ex-husband with no regard for the fact that this will have blow back on her. -Breaks into her house to plant cameras and microphones. - Breaks into her house to install locks. - "allows" her to walk to the bathroom unescorted "like a gazelle amongst a herd of lions". - Is proud of her for sitting prim and proper after she's been attacked in an alleyway. - Breaks into her house and hides a gun under the matress in a house with a toddler. - Furthermore he's incredibly bad at his job and never actually solves the mystery. The author withholding information from the reader that LITERALLY every character knows (Brock is a cop) in order to create suspense that would have been better spent as character development was a waste. Lily is so willfully stupid multiple times that I gave myself a headache rolling my eyes. The fact that Lily/the author agknowledges this stupidity doesn't excuse it. I was so uninterested in these characters that by the time they had sex 230 pages into the book I honestly didn't care. Total disappointment.

Doesn't work for me.

Don't like the characters, they are formulaic and i don't feel much empathy for them. The story doesn't flow.
I like Eve Langlais' other books so I decided to give this one a try; I won't be reading any more in this series.

The narrator sounds like a robot...very disappointing and distracting. I would have given the story a lot more stars if someone else had of narrated it.
