Great Sales Book

I started with 10X Rule and just finished Sell or Be Sold. Great book for sales and I love the aggressive unapologetic approach. Grant's philosophy starts to sink in quickly and really makes you think.

Almost an Infomercial

What disappointed you about Sell or Be Sold: How to Get Your Way in Business and in Life?

The narrator (also the author) consistently mispronounces words, and even uses the wrong words in places. This cold be overlooked in his enthusiasm, but it's exhausting to listen to through an entire book. The first three chapters are almost nothing but hyping the concept in the book. I'm already listening to it, I don't need it hyped for more than a paragraph or two. There are dozens of sales pitches in the book to purchase, visit, or otherwise consume other media produced by the author's company. While he does have a lot of other information available, the content to pitch ratio in the book was thin. With all the time he spent pitching other projects, he literally could have just included the content in this reading. There were times I had to fast forward through protracted, repetitive sales pitches just to pick up more fresh content.

Would you be willing to try another book from Grant Cardone? Why or why not?

Yes, because he is a subject master on Sales.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Grant Cardone?

Literally anyone that can read English aloud.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Sell or Be Sold: How to Get Your Way in Business and in Life?

Cut the entire second chapter and most of the repetition in the third chapter. (He makes a fresh point in the third chapter, but then reverts to pure repetition.)Cut the hyperbole of the narrator when he's clearly misinformed. I get that the book works partly because of his outsized bravado, but it's exhausting to listen to when he's obviously just making things up.

Any additional comments?

While I found the presentation repetitive and factually suspicious, the core of his sales system is sound. The ideas in this book are outstanding and he is clearly a brilliant producer. Despite the glaring failings of this reading, I would still recommend it with caveats.

Among the Greatest Books on Sales! A Must Read!

Would you consider the audio edition of Sell or Be Sold: How to Get Your Way in Business and in Life to be better than the print version?

Most definitely, the audio book has the added advantage of a Grant Cardone performance, and what a performance it is. If he ever gets tired of sales (highly unlikely...) he could always read books for Audible.com and would probably be better than most narrators ;-))

What other book might you compare Sell or Be Sold: How to Get Your Way in Business and in Life to and why?

Pitch Anything by Oren Klaff

Any additional comments?

I can only recommend this book to anyone in sales. Grant Cardone will change your thought process. I listen to the book while working out at the gym and I'm replaying various chapters in my car. Once you've listened to it, rinse and repeat.

Don't call about "The Book" Grant Mentions

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

If he would not have pitched Dianetics and Scientology and just stuck to sales info.

What was most disappointing about Grant Cardone’s story?

The pitching of Dianetics

How did the narrator detract from the book?

By trying to sell Dianetics

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Sell or Be Sold: How to Get Your Way in Business and in Life?

I would have cut the part where he mentions a book that he says is important to understanding people so you can sell, then won't tell you the title of the book so you have to call his company, and then finding out that he is trying to sell Dianetics.

Any additional comments?

I don't care what your belief system is, I will buy good products and services from anyone of any faith, but do not try to pitch your ideology as part of you product, especially in a dishonest and ambiguous way. That is incredibly unprofessional and inappropriate. I gave the book 2 stars instead of 1 because the info. is decent.

Phenomenal Book for Everyone

Grant Cardone is on fire as he reveals his personal sales techniques. This is a must read for everyone, not just those who are in sales for a living. All of us sell every day. We sell ourselves to others. We sell our ideas to others. We sell our presentations to others.

I have had a temper problem my entire life, but I now understand that tempers stop sales. Anything we do that negatively influences others means that we just lost the sale. What a change this book is making on my life! What an impact it is having on my relationships with others!!! What a change this book is making within me!!! This is a must read for everyone.

Please, please, please disregard the negative reviews, Either those people have their lives all put together or they are fooling themselves.

Does Grant come across kind of arrogantly? Yep, but don't miss what he is saying.

Some Great Tips But Lots of Right Hooks

There were some really good tips, and I was loving it the first half of the book until it turned into a major infomercial for Grant's products and services.

He also lost me in a Chapter where he frequently used the words "itchbay" and "ickday" (pig Latin) repeatedly.

Some good tips, but it turned me off from listening to his other books. I may just buy the paperback version from now on.

Quite disappointing

I’m disappointed by how underwhelming this book was. Considering the high number of strong reviews and ratings the book had, I had high hopes for it. Instead, the advice that Cardone offers is unoriginal, repetitive and tiresome. The book is billed as one that can help readers/listeners whether they are in a sales profession or not, however the story quickly turns its focus to almost entirely speak to salespeople exclusively.
I admit I mostly enjoyed the conversational nature of the narration. I thought Cardone’s voice and color made the story tolerable and added some much needed wit at times. With that said, the narration wasn’t enough to outweigh the disappointment I felt knowing that I gained very little from this story that will help me in sales and in life.

Horrible

By far the worst book I've ever read or listened to. I honestly believe my 9 year old could have written a better book. Just another idiot/ so called expert. However this book did teach me about buyer's remorse. lol

7 hours less narcissism and stories would be great

Honest view is that you can learn a few good tips from this guy....if you are a salesman. He begins by saying everyone can benefit from this book even for their family and friend relationships. The book quickly becomes targeted at salesmen and especially American men. I doubt women would align with most things he says especially when he keeps calling the listener "dude" and trying to get a girlfriend. I'm a guy so perhaps the last comment is skewed coming from me. One of the things i liked the least is he attempts to sell his other services over and over. Great salesman? Annoying and turns me off. In my view the book consists of the below:-
50% rambling and repeating the same thing.
25% boring stories about the author and how you should live like him and stop anything else you are doing.
15% useful content
10% enjoyable easy going listening

so its not all bad by any means but I would prefer to read the top ten tips and follow them instead of have them drummed into my head past boredom.

Rubbish

Oh my God... purchased this to do some research for a training initiative.
You get the odd gem but generally it's hours.... AND hours of Grant Cardone justifying in so many different ways why he is a fantastic salesman. Occasionally the maths doesn't add up (ie, selling fish) which takes away from the credibility coupled with Grants terrible delivery style makes this a really painfully listen.

A book about his ego. Nothing more.

Loved it

I chose 5 stars because this book is excellent for anyone and everyone who wishes to achieve success in life and sees it as the only option. I have that mindset and Grant had that mindset when he was 20. The difference being he has decades of experience and proof to back it up. He integrates useful concepts with interesting stories and the way he translates the information is fantastic. Grant is engaging and more interesting than professional book narrators because he has emotional experience intertwined and that comes across in the book and the overall vibe. I will be certainly listening to this book again and Grant you have a new follower. I'll see you in a few years mate, but for now I'm going to devour your 10x rule book. Highly recommended to ambitious people interested in success strategies.

Excellent, minus the Scientology pushing

It's an excellent book that will inspire and give you worthwhile knowledge and he does his best to not go on his normal rants. but he pushes Scientology hard and at times underhanded.

Solid material from beginning to end

Grant Cardone isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but the more I listen to him the more he becomes my brand of kool-aid. His content and performance throughout this title was consistently strong, right up to the last chapter. I recommend this book to anyone needing guidance, perspective, or a ‘pep’ talk about how to make it in the world of sales - whatever you’re selling.

Good tips .

The book has some really great tips and insight on selling. however, towards the end of the book when he tells you to put in 10 times the work that you think you need to do to get what you want, and basically hound every single person you know and every person they live with for a sale is not something anybody wants to do and certainly isn't realistic.
You don't need a sales expert to tell you that if you put in 10 times the work and contact every single living soul you know you're going to make more sales any numpty could work that out on their own.

Tough read/listen

Sadly this one didn’t hit the mark for me. A couple of interesting points on sales and marketing techniques that are sparse throughout - this was a very difficult listen.
I couldn’t finish it despite going back to it multiple times to try. The author is a narcissist, drones incessantly about his “experiences” and tells stories so far fetched it was hard to tease out the good from the bad.
