A new recording for the 10th anniversary of this parenting staple, on how parents can control their own behavior instead of unsuccessfully attempting to control their kids. Now with new information on keeping your cool in the digital age, examining the new wave of calm parenting, and dealing with defiant teens.

WANT A PEACEFUL HOME?

If you’re like most parents, what you want right now is pretty simple: an effective plan for getting your kids to behave and be happy. You’re probably looking for something else as well – something a little deeper. Like many other parents all over the world, you want to know you’re doing a good job. You want to feel like you can handle anything. You want to feel confident, competent, and hopeful for the future, for both your kids and yourself. (Oh, and along the way, you’d like a little peace, quiet, and respect as well.)

All of the above are possible, even probable, if you can learn to become “Screamfree.” You can have the structured, rewarding home life you’ve always craved, with respectful kids who are responsible for their own actions. All you have to do is learn to pause, so you can respond more and react less. It really is that simple. Once you learn to control your own emotions and behavior, your children will soon learn how to control theirs.

Now is your chance to join thousands of other parents in a movement of calmer parenting. This practical, effective guide for parents with kids of all ages introduces proven principles for overcoming the stress and anxiety of parenting, forged in the personal trenches of countless Screamfree families. The new, revised edition includes updated practical applications of the foundational ScreamFree principles, a new chapter on parenting in the digital age, and a comprehensive Q&A section dealing with everything from behavioral problems to allowances and chores.

A peaceful home is closer than you think.

“Whew! What a relief—a fresh approach to parenting that eliminates the battles, the bickering, the frustrations and guilt while allowing children the space to learn and grow. It’s inventive and doable…parents stay calm, connected, and in control—a miracle. My favorite parts: Take: care of myself first so that my children won't have to later. My scream reaction to my children behavior has nothing to do with them, but everything to do with me. I'm asking them to calm me down. I've learned to stay calm regardless of the situation, listen and then handle the situation accordingly.

Awesome Book!

Very helpful way of thinking. Help you understand how to change what is going on between you and your child, without your child's cooperation.

very helpful

I didn't particularly like Chapters 2-7. I need to be told only so many times that not screaming at my kids and focusing instead on myself is what I need to do. I did, however, get a lot out of the remaining chapters in the book, such as allowing natural consequences to be the child's punishment for poor choices (the Love & Logic concept), allowing children to have their space, keeping promises, and taking care of yourself first so you can bring your best self to your relationships. I agree that he didn't lay out step by step what actions to take to put the principles into practice, but I personally didn't find that necessary. Definitely a worthwhile listen.

I am truly enjoying this audio book. It has very insightful information about parenting - the best way to handle difficult situations with children is by 1st controlling your emotional reactivity and remaining calm. I love this basic principle and the parenting vignettes with tips have been very useful. I am glad I chose this parenting book over others to listen to since it can be applied to children of all ages and stages. I highly recommend it!!!
