Children of the Jedi introduces Callista, a Jedi warrior of long ago who gave her life to foil one of the Empire's darkest plans, a plot to destroy a sanctuary for the families of Jedi knights. The plot involved a dreadnaught, one of the Empire's most devious inventions. Crippled during the war against the Empire, the vessel has drifted through space for years. But now it is slowly reactivating and resuming its inexorable mission. And only Luke Skywalker can feel its evil presence.
A trade summit on Corellia brings Han Solo back to the home planet he left many years before. Arriving on the distant planet with Leia, their children, and Chewbacca, Han finds Corellia overrun with agents of the New Republic Intelligence and finds himself part of a deceptive plan whose aim not even he understands.
It is a time of tranquility for the New Republic. But the peace is short-lived. Luke must journey to his mother's homeworld in a desperate and dangerous quest to find her people. An adventurous Lando must seize a mysterious spacecraft that has weapons of enormous destructive power. And Leia, a living symbol of the New Republic's triumph, must face down a ruthless leader of the Duskhan League, an arrogant Yevetha who seems bent on a genocidal war.
As Leia must deal with a new threat to the fragile alliance that binds the New Republic, Lando becomes a prisoner aboard a runaway spacecraft of unknown origin. The ship is following an unstoppable path to its homeworld, destroyed by Imperial forces. Luke continues his quest to learn more about his mother among the Fallanassi, where his every belief about the use of the Force is about to be challenged.
Faced with an alarming image of Han as a battered hostage of the Yevetha, Chewbacca takes on an urgent mission. Meanwhile, Leia calls upon the Senate to take a stand and eliminate the Yevetha threat. As a former Imperial governor takes his battle to the runaway Qella spaceship, Luke's continuing search for his mother brings him dangerously close to Nil Spaar's deadly forces. And as the Yevetha close in on the forces of the New Republic, Luke takes a desperate gamble with an invisible weapon.
No sooner has Darth Vader's funeral pyre burned to ashes on Endor than the Alliance intercepts a call for help from a far-flung Imperial outpost. Bakura is on the edge of known space and the first to meet the Ssi-ruuk, cold-blooded reptilian invaders who, once allied with the now dead Emperor, are approaching Imperial space with only one goal: total domination.
Princess Leia sees the mission as an opportunity to achieve a diplomatic victory for the Alliance. But it assumes even greater importance when a vision of Obi-Wan Kenobi appears to Luke Skywalker with the message that he must go to Bakura - or risk losing everything the Rebels have fought so desperately to achieve.

This book is not necessary to read in order to understand future books. Well written, lacks humor, descriptions of situations gives the listener a great visual.

there is not a single line in this book that is correct, the narrator changes the lines, can't even fallow him
The story is severely compromised through abridgement. The narrator talks way too fast and seems disinterested in being there in the first place. Please stop abridging these books!
Read this in paperback years ago and was excited to revisit it with this audiobook. The abridged version gets the gist of the story, but three hours really doesn't do it justice. It was sad knowing how much was missing here. Although the reading did improve dramatically after the first 20 minutes (narrator forgot to stop to breath lol), he kept pronouncing words funny ("Han", "Palpatine", etc) and his characterization of voices felt way off. It's like he'd never even watched the movies himself. My suggestion? Skip this one and grab the paperback instead.
This book was hard to read through but made a great audio book. As a audio book it make the story interesting catching.
The narration/performance left something to be desired, especially considering that I had just before, listened to Revan and Deceived, from the Old Republic series, which were masterfully done. I just don't care for abridgment I guess. Still, it was a great story and I enjoyed it thoroughly, as I'm sure any true fan would.
Where does Star Wars: The Truce at Bakura rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Hard to say, I've listened to a lot. It's somewhere in the middle as far as Star Wars novels go; not bad, lots of good action and interesting plotline, but not as exciting as other EU stories like the Thrawn trilogy or the yuuzhan vong war.
What did you like best about this story?
How often is there one specific thing someone likes about a story above all other things? Moving on...
What didn’t you like about Anthony Heald’s performance?
Part of my criticism might be overly harsh because Marc Thompson does such an amazing job in later EU books, but the only thing I didn't like about this book was the narration, it made it hard to listen to at times. The inflection in the narrators voice doesn't have enough range to clearly distinguish characters. The one thing I did not like at all, and honestly irritated me quite a bit, was the portrayal of Han Solo. The narrator gives him this nasally, almost 1920s gangster sound to his voice (Gimme all yer creds, see), which is just weird. I'm actually curious as to why they would take a character portrayed by Harrison Ford, who has a deeper tone to his voice, and turn him into Lucky Luciano Solo, to the point where I'd like to ask the narrator. Also, there are times when it feels like he's speaking too quickly, to where it throws the cadence off every now and then, almost like someone who is trying to spit out the sentence they're on before they run out of breath.
the narrator does a terrible job of separating the characters. the story really was sub par compared to all the other Star Wars books.
Has Star Wars: The Truce at Bakura turned you off from other books in this genre?
No
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Anger that they wouldn't make this unabridged.
Any additional comments?
This is an important story in the Star Wars series. It's a mystery to me why they would make this an abridged version. You can tell there are parts missing. Don't waste your money!
I am new to the Star Wars books and decided to start with the one right after the the 6th episode. I loved this story, and it's was amazing how close Luke and Dev had gotten in a short time. The way the scenes are described makes you feel like you are thee. For this to be my first book from Audible I will definitely be getting more books from here.
