Publisher's summary

A duel. An ultimatum. An arranged marriage.

England, 1777

Will, Viscount Wingrave, whiles away his time gambling and bedding married women, thwarted in his wish to serve his country by his controlling father.

News that his errant son has fought a duel with a jealous husband is the last straw for the Earl of Marstone. He decrees that Will must marry. The earl's eye lights upon Connie Charters, unpaid housekeeper and drudge for a poor but socially ambitious father who cares only for the advantage her marriage could bring him.

Will and Connie meet for the first time at the altar. But Connie wants a husband who will love and respect her, not a womanizer and a gambler.

Their new home, on the wild coast of Devonshire, conceals dangerous secrets that threaten them and the nation. Can Will and Connie overcome the forces against them and forge a happy life together?

Unusual circumstances and enjoyable book.

This is my 2nd time reading this book and I've loved and I've enjoyed it just as much the 2nd time as I did the 1st time. it's one of those books where, surprisingly, the female or anyone doesn't do irritating things.. I really enjoyed the book.

A satisfying tale

A forced marriage of strangers leads to growing maturity and love. Both the H and the h have dreadful fathers who treated them abominably once their mothers died. The story is interesting and original. Personal growth of the characters is the main st compelling part of the book. I plan to continue reading this series.

Plot

Performance could have been better but story was well paced and provided interest. A very pleasant audio book.

Wonderful Sort-of-Prequel

Beautifully realized sort-of-prequel about one of the characters who made a cameo towards the end of "The Mrs. MacKinnons." Great fun and a good beginning to what promises to be a wonderful series. I hope we get to learn more about Uncle Jack and the feud with Will's father.

An unusual and creative Georgian Romance

Jayne Davis has become one of my favorite authors. Her books reflect a good balance of complex personal interactions, suspense, uniqueness of plot, etc. I have read all her books on Kindle, and would love to see more of the Marstone Series recorded on Audible,,,hint, hint...

Enjoyed it

This was a fun book, and I liked that they were up front with each other and didn’t have the hours of misunderstandings and angst that so many other books rely on. Narration was good, though I wish Will hadn’t had such a nasally, vocal-fry voice. Made him sound older and fussy. Otherwise, I liked the overall upbeat tone of the narration.
