Tod's story races on in this second book in the TodHunter Moon trilogy, a spinoff of the popular Septimus Heap series. Fans of Septimus as well as fantasy readers new to the world of Magyk will enjoy this next installment in the series ALA Booklist calls ""warm and inventive."" Full-page illustrations by renowned fantasy artist Mark Zug begin each section and add to the magic!

Great for readers of Harry Potter or Brandon Mull's Fablehaven series, TodHunter Moon offers something for every reader, regardless of gender or age. SandRider is also a dynamic pick for parents reading aloud to younger children before bedtime.

Taking place seven years after the events of the original Septimus Heap series, TodHunter Moon tells the story of Alice TodHunter Moon, a young PathFinder who comes to the Castle with a Magyk all her own. In this second book, Tod sets out for the Desert of the Singing Sands to retrieve the Egg of the Orm—a journey that will test not only her Magykal and PathFinding skills but her friendships, too.

I love this author and cannot wait for the next book. The characters and storytelling are just fantastic. It would be an excellent movie series for all ages.

Sandrider is just Excellent

I truly enjoyed the story. I also think the series is very well written and very entertaining. Unfortunately the narrator did not listen to the previous books in the series. She didn't understand how things were pronounced and it really bothered me that she kept getting characters names wrong. I did like the fact that the new characters had different accents from the previous characters but once again I was not very thrilled with the narration.

Angie Sage added to the great world of Septimus Heap. Tod has brought a great set of characters to the castle and wizard tower.

Do not try to read this book without reading PathFinder first.

What is Lapis Lazuli? Sage gives it her unique twist, linking it to power (just like alchemy was linked to greed). How do sleds operate with no regard to elevation and gravity? Once you know the answer, you will wonder why the runners need to be polished. If you have ever hurtled down a ski slope, you may wonder how Tod could notice so many minute details as she raced along.
Why do characters like the "clicking" monsters (PathFinder) and age-mate apprentice bullies (SandRider and StarChaser) only appear in the story when something dastardly needs to happen?
How did so many world-spanning transport systems get built?
Magical beings seem to know exactly where to go, so why does Jim Knee need a guide?
It is interesting to watch the mood-swings or plot-swings of Kaznim, Marissa, Jim Knee, and even Septimus. They serve to keep the story moving along. The Tribe of Three also keeps things going by insisting that they know better than anyone else what needs to be done.

The story was great. I️ like that throughout the story it was not predictable and neither was the ending. She is doing a great job of focusing the story on the apprentice while appropriately balancing the roles of the old characters that we know and love.

Great balance of characters!

I love Angie Sage's books. However, the reader of these keeps gasping while reading, like she needs to take a deep breath. It's grating.
