Publisher's summary

Safe People will help you discover why good people can get tangled up in bad relationships, how to avoid repeating your own mistakes, and how to pick safe, healthy people for the friends you make and the company you keep.

Too many of us have invested in relationships that have gone wrong. Maybe you've been judged, manipulated, or controlled. Or maybe you've trusted the wrong people in the past. It's easy to make the same mistakes of judgment over and over - or, worse, to give up on trying to have great, authentic relationships again. But it doesn't have to be that way.

In Safe People, Drs. Henry Cloud and John Townsend teach you that being with an unsafe person can be damaging to your confidence, your trust in others, and even your health. You'll learn that you have the power to surround yourself with accepting, honest, and safe people who draw you closer to being the person God intended you to be.

Drs. Cloud and Townsend, authors of the New York Times best seller Boundaries, are here to share the lessons they've learned in their years of practicing psychology and studying the patterns and practices that support clear, biblical boundaries. In Safe People, they offer guidance for making safe choices in all of your day-to-day relationships, from family and friends to colleagues and partners.

Safe People will give you the tools you need to recognize what makes people relationally safe, form positive relationships, and even become a safe person along the way. Drs. Cloud and Townsend share expert insights that will help you ask important questions:

  • How can I learn to pick better friends?
  • Why do I choose people who let me down?
  • How did I end up with this critical boss?
  • How do I attract irresponsible people?
  • Why did I invest money with that unscrupulous person?
  • What is it about me that draws the wrong types of people to me?
  • Why am I drawn to the wrong types of people?

It's time to revitalize your connections and finally start enjoying the healthy, balanced relationships that you deserve.

not complete

-very good information, but I had no idea it was not complete from the book. I wanted to use it for recovery group discussion along with the workbook and it was difficult if not impossible.

Not the complete book

I have the book and needed to read it for an assignment. I purchased the audible and was surprised that it was not every word, but did have the main points.

I've Been Picking Unsafe People Unaware

I bought this audiobook on a hunch I might need to work on myself in this area. Wow! I didn't realize just how much I struggle with character discernment. Great book, very practical, logical and well written. Cloud and Townsend are excellent authors. There's so much good material here I may have to order the hard copy to study it again. I highly recommend this book.

Manditory Reading

I think this should be a required reading for every person entering High School. I found it amazingly effective and one that could very well save the pain of being with unsafe people. I purchased the book and the workbook so that I can educate my children to save them some heart ache along the way.

Excellent Christian Guide To Help In Relationships

In a nut shell it's important to identify people who are going to help you grow into the person God wants you to be. The book helps one identify safe and unsafe traits in people. Ultimately safe people produce good fruit in your relationships, and unsafe people the opposite. This book is not only for so called 'good' people to avoid 'bad' people, but also 'bad' people to identify their destructive traits and become good people. Excellent book, but one does need to be a christian to appreciate, in that, non christian could get wound up by this book. For me this was a God send.

Excellent Listen

I brought this book as I was intrigued by the title. This book and its author have not failed to deliver. This book was exactly what I needed to hear, it opened up my understanding of what happens when “safe people operate “. I gave this book a five star rating, as it is great to keep people accountable and to understand the traits that are needed to have safe people around you. If you keep making the same mistakes with people, buy this book.

Good but could be better

I found this book a good overview of its topic, but there were times I wish the authors had included more detail or examples to expand on their statements.
