Publisher's summary
Guess who may just need to end time? You got it: Jon Ryan may be forced to cancel, terminate, and definitively end time itself—everywhere.
Why is he straying in that direction? Well, he wanted to fix the timeline. After the Clan no-timed Earth and Jon resurrected it, he was stressed that the new future would void out the very future that gave us our hero himself. So, Jon did his best to fix the timeline according to how he thought it should be.
You know that feeling when you do something that doesn't turn out well at all, and then somebody asks you how it went—and you don't want to lie but you don't want to tell them the truth either? Yeah, that's kind of how it's going with Jon and his timeline repair job. He's changed time, but like monkey's paw magic, the results are not what he desired. Now, impossible, unexplainable, and undesirable events are happening all over universe. Jon is beginning to lose faith in his plan. By the way, everyone else did long ago.
As reality dwindles, can Jon reverse his run of bad luck, or will he just make existence worse? All your questions will be answered. Now, we just need to find out if Jon will like those answers. Yikes! Better listen to this story sitting down.

Doctor Benjamin Schröder was far from a man of action. In fact, he was a history teacher - chairman of the Castle Rock University history department - and if his life wasn't perfect, it was close. You think you’re struggling to find your place in the universe? Consider poor old Colin Douglass, a terminally ill insurance agent who awakens from centuries in cryogenic freeze to find Earth is a devastated wasteland. Now, he’s being pursued by a homicidal interstellar tourist board, and calculating insurance dividends is as outdated as making stone axes. Sci-fi-hating technophobe Colin seeks a cure for his illness in this strange new galaxy where toilets talk back, and door handles are a long-forgotten relic.

During the day, he’s a South Chicago high school janitor, slopping a mop around from nine o’clock to three o’clock, five days a week. At night, hiding out in a boarded-up factory, he attends to his damaged interstellar spacecraft, making repairs and counting the days until he can return to his homeworld of Calunoth. All he needs to do is mind his own business and avoid any messy human dramas for just a few more weeks. But it is on one of those quiet nights when he hears them outside: the MP140s. Named for a police radio code for murder, they're among the most ruthless killers.

At his death in 1988, Robert A. Heinlein left a legacy that almost single-handedly defined modern science fiction. But one of Heinlein's masterpieces was never finished. In 1955, he began work on Variable Star, a powerful and passionate tale of two young lovers driven apart by pride, power, and the vastness of interstellar time and space. Now, the Heinlein estate has authorized award-winning author Spider Robinson to expand his outline into a full-length novel. And the result is vintage Heinlein.

I leave ratings to remind myself I read a book...
...And how much I enjoyed it. Now Audible has gone and effed that up too by forcing me to write a review before I can star it. So here you go: Every day in every way, Audible sucks more and more. Libby is at least as good and it's free.
Now, as for the book, it was great, as usual. I wish, however, that the issue of statutory rape wasn't handled so cavalierly. I know it used to be considered different for boys but that is not a good thing, imo.

Kind of a bummer ending to an amazing series
This has been one of my favorite sci-fi series. I have to say that it was a very exciting book , but if this is truly the ending of the series, I am BUMMED.
It feels like this was the literary equivalent to painting yourself into a corner, and there was just no other way to finish off the series.
I hope there's another one planned! but please don't have him wake up from a dream with everything from the last books being what it was composed of...

Exceptional Series and Exceptional Narrator
One of my most favorite story series read by an incredible narrator. I love these books and cannot wait for the next in the series. Intellectual, humorous, intriguing, so enjoyable. Please keep the books coming! And please keep the Narrator, he is outstanding!

The issue of the effects concerning time travel and the anomalies in the idea of changing history.
I was completely entertained by the whole story, but got very lost in the ending.

Great story
Love how the use of MSNBC in a made up story fits well with it's fake news.

Omg. It NEVER gets old!
If I were a drug addict, I would compare this series to something very addictive
