Publisher's summary

Enemies emerge everywhere. Stagnation starts seeming standard. Results require Ruthlessness.

Joe has been moving deeper into his study of ritual magic and further away from his combat team. He's learning more and more, but more often than not needs to choose between his research and squad leadership. Improving the town is a huge help to the guild, and they have been pushing to increase their power.

Their rapid increases have not gone unnoticed. The guild receives an ultimatum, delivered by assassins and signed with blood. If they continue to accrue power and fame, each and every person with a grievance against the guild will come to smash the town back to square one.

With tensions coming to a head, all Joe wants to do is leave it all behind and reach the next area. He flatly refuses the guild when they ask him to devise lethal options to use against the gathering army, but when the time comes...even Joe is unsure if he'll step into the limelight and show everyone exactly how ruthless he can be.

great addition to the series

Luke Daniels continues to be one of my favorite narrators. her had a variety of voices and makes it really easy to follow along with his clear diction. the store is a strong addition to the series and while a bit more time than I would have hoped is spent on getting rid of a couple debuffs I am eagerly awaiting the next installment

Can't get enough of this and the CAL adventures predecessor. Still miss the original narrator though

stay for the blooper reel

another great addition to the series packed with adventure, details, and mechanics. I do miss the days of hunting rabbits and slowly discovering the game. now things move much faster and everything is bigger. this was a very Joe-focused book, we'll get 1-liners from past characters once in a while but for the most part Joe goes at it all solo. there's also too much stuff that benefits Joe. items, skills, old favors, curses, old deals, buildings, secrets, bugs, etc. it's almost annoying how he always has the right tool for the job. even when things seem to not be going in his favor they actually are going in his favor. aside from that I still love the series and I'm really looking forward to see how the next book progresses.

I was delighted to all of a sudden hear the narrator break down. everything is so clean and polished when it gets to my ears so it was refreshing and hilarious to hear the difficulties a voice talent runs into.

this series always makes me lol

as normal some good humor in the story an the title has a hint to why it is called what it is did not care much for the gag real though some may me i dont get into things like that. still the narrator needs to work on women voices other then that does a great job

Amazing Series

Don’t hesitate and get this book!
This series gets better and better!
Narrator does an amazing job as always.
I needed this. I have been listening to other books like this series and they have no idea how to overcome anything. The other books just allow their MC to win after boasting about the objectives that are impossible and they don’t even know how to explain how the MC completes the objective. Lol sorry for the rant. This book explains that the MC is not a god. He is basically a hard worker with good and bad luck at times. It’s also hilarious.
Keep up the great work and I can’t wait to read/listen to the next book
