smooth read

good story, smooth read.
this book is kind of a contemporary romance....slow burn.
Didn't understand the correlation between the title and the story.

Short listen

This was the first book I've read/listened to by Melissa Stevens. It was a good read for a short story. A slow burn vs love at first sight. I liked the characters, but didn't really feel them. I had trouble getting the characters names straight at first because her female was a frequent male name and the male had a more frequent female name...from my experience. I realize they can be either/or names. It was just confusing for me.

Bump Turgeson had an easy to listen to voice. He just wasn't good at switching voices which contributed to the male/female confusion at times.

Good story

This is a good weekend story to read'listen, It flows nicely and the characters are nicely developed. I would recommend.

Great story! Love the series!

I love series that stand alone but have crossover characters. The Highland County Heroes have this in Romancing the Defense. It’s fun to get to see characters we met earlier in Waking Up Cuffed. We get Denni’s story. She dated Tracy, Stacy’s brother but things did not work out. Stacy double dated with Denni’s friend Hayley, but when things didn’t work out, he left town. Now Stacy is back in town and the pull he felt for Denni is strong. Will Denni take the chance to be with Stacy? Will Tracy be good with his brother dating someone he had? I really enjoyed this novella. It is the perfect length, the perfect couple as they find their destiny. Bump Turgeson continues his narration of this amazing series and has become the voice of this County.

A nice romance.

This is a nice romance. The sex is off the page. Not much action, just a story of how they met and their instant attraction.
I listened to Audio version. Bumps does a nice, clear job reading it. Not too much acting out the parts.

Romancing the defense...and that’s it.

This is a nice story. The story flows nicely and the characters are okay. I wish something exciting would happen but we get to watch them figure out how to get together. I would have liked more depth to the characters. This is the sixth book I have listened to and I still have no connection to the characters.

I did listen to this on audio. Bump Turgeson is the narrator. I wish he would have used a couple different voices for the two main characters. They each have gender neutral names and it was hard to figure out who was talking at times.

Short & Sweet

Romancing the Defense is an excellent addition to the Highland County Heroes series. Despite the length, the storyline is well-paced and with a smooth flow. The characters are charming and likable. Excellent narration by Bump Turgeson; he has a full range of tones with the ability to portray various characters. I was given a free copy of this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this unbiased review.
