When Laura Fry returns to her childhood home to care for her invalid mother, she hopes the writer’s block that has swallowed her writing career will disappear. She doesn’t plan on turning into a “yard girl” but her mother’s long neglected lawn beckons her to return it to the lush and colorful display it had been before her mother’s accident. Accountant and financial advisor Lacey Chamberlain doesn't consider herself a control freak. She's merely a planner-orderly, neat, and content in her tidy little life. When a marketing firm moves into the empty office next door, the loud-music-playing, stinky-food-ordering, kickball-in-the-hall staff make Lacey crazy. Marketing expert Alicia Wright is spontaneous, flies by the seat of her pants, and lives in the moment-all the things Lacey is not. She's also gorgeous, thoughtful, and seems determined to make Lacey like her. They say opposites attract, but for how long? And is that really a good idea?

Story
Eighteen-year-old Charlee Parker met the love of her life in a parking lot-a leggy brunette with a valedictorian medal hanging from her rear-view mirror and an attitude as biting as a Boston winter. Alexandra Woodson was guarded, a 19-year-old orphan set on a bright future in hospitality administration. She never imagined an art student with a penchant for cheesy pick-up lines and stealing parking spaces would crack her rigid exterior and claim her heart. For four years, theirs was an enviable love - evergreen and growing. Unbreakable... until it broke.

Publisher's Summary
Some believe that special someone is out there just waiting to be found. Jorie Andolini is one of those people and has spent a lot of time envisioning that moment. She bumps into a woman at a grocery store, the woman drops a can of peas, Jorie picks it up, their eyes meet, and two souls connect. But it's actually a wasted trip to New York, a snowstorm, and a canceled flight home that puts her in the path of Lena Vaughn.
Lena has found fault in every man she's ever dated. Her dream of finding a husband is dwindling with every year that passes. Despite what her friends say, Lena doesn't believe she has a fear of commitment, she simply hasn't found a man she wanted to commit to. It comes as a surprise that in fact it is a woman who stirs those desires. For Lena, it's not really a matter of sexuality, it's just Jorie.
Travel the road to happiness with Jorie and Lena. Two crazy old women, meddling friends, and cattitude are just some sights you'll see along the way.

Loved this story. I was rolling around laughing my butt off for the majority, and besides that, the story was well written had great flow and perfectly formed world. The monster meatloaf and the bruised butt had me in tears. I absolutely loved the side characters, they are amazing. especially gran and aunt c. the narrator is amazing as well, her voice is very pleasent and her inflections and tones bring the funny to hilarity.

Just The Best
I looked back at some of my reviews and saw books I'd trashed before getting halfway through them, that I ended up really liking. There were books that I'd totaled or praised after listening to once that either evolved or devolved after multiple plays. My solution was to take some time off; I decided to give myself an hiatus from reviews of any audio lasting more than two hours. I also decided that in most cases I wouldn't do a review of any selection that I hadn't listened to at least twice. Despite all that extra caution I'm about to gush like a..., nope better not use that metaphor; I'm about to heap praise on this little book like it just won the Pulitzer.
I found myself falling for both of these ladies, I was swimming in genuine lady lust for both these ladies; something quite unusual for me; usually there is at least one of the two leading ladies that causes to question the book's authenticity; why Would the other woman ever go for her?
The car trip from New York to New Orleans is just what it was supposed to be. In the book it was used as a vehicle for the two lead characters to get to know each other, while introducing them to the reader. Back home in New Orleans they go their separate ways but it's obvious that they will reconnect at some point soon. They both face the opposition of their friends and Jorie faces some from her family as well. This is thankfully one romance novel that doesn't stoop to some ridiculous contrived breakup to build the tension for the inevitable coming together.
Then after eight hours without any of the silly, manufactured, made for TV crap the epilogue is a perfect example of over reaching. despite the fact that it's setting is the couple, their friends, and families awaiting the Supreme's decision to overturn DOMA; aka The Defense or Marriage Act. That was a small disappointment but this had been such a great listen that I quickly forgave the author. In case you've missed my message thus far, I highly recommend this audio.

Brilliant as always
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I have yet to read a story from RA that I have not thoroughly enjoyed. This is probably the best so far.
Who was your favorite character and why?
The characters are all lovable but Lena probably is the most likeable.
Which scene did you most enjoy?
Definitely when Lena throws up on Jorie!!
If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
Just perfect...

I've loved Robin Alexander books forever and so was a little worried that a duff storyteller would kill it for me. Lisa Cordileone is pure dead brilliant !! It X a lovely single dramatised performance that enhances the story. If you like a laugh you will love Robins books. I'm hoping that she'll narrate 'The Lure of White Oak Lake'.. Can't wait for the next audible book.

Pure brilliance !!
What an absolute gem of a book. One of the funniest books I have ever read/ listened to.
It is a bittersweet story. The characters are pure brilliance , the dialogue is genius and at times it's proper laugh out loud. The characters are reminiscent of Armistead Maupin's in Tales of The City. I thouroughly enjoyed this book.
The narration by Lisa Cordileone is divine. I would buy the telephone directory if Lisa was narrating it !!
If you only listen to one book in your life then this is without a doubt the one !!
