    Story
"If you don't mind some cheese in your romance..."

Sean is an art student who comes out to his dad and is thrown out into the streets. He has no money, no job and is about to become a rent boy when he is attacked. His would-be friend/pimp gets killed trying to protect him and Sean gets injured, but is rescued by Armand.
Both the attacker and Armand are werewolves. It turns out Sean is a werewolf too, only he doesn’t know it. Sean is no ordinary werewolf, he has special powers. Armand wants Sean because he is his mate. The attacker wants his powers.

Armand nurses Sean back to health, tells him about the supernatural and they fall in love.

The rest of the story is preparing Sean to be a special Omega wolf and to try to capture the attacker before he gets Sean. The clock is ticking because Sean won’t get his power til he’s twenty-five but if he’s mated before he’s taken, the powers will be safe.

    **

Overall, this was an okay shifter story. Insta-love. Medium-hot chemistry. Semi-believable conflict. Lots of loves, “babys” and honeys.

If you are a sucker for a sentimental, traditional “mates” type shifter story (like me) this is for you. There is next to nothing about being a wolf in this story other than as a plot device to explain the insta-love.

If you want a story with a more meaty storyline, more “shifting”, more plot…you might want to skip this.

I enjoyed it for what it is and give it 3 of 5 stars.

    Audio

I LOVED Joel’s narration! I admit that I am a sucker for accents and Joel has given us – I don’t know – like at least 5 or 6 in this story alone! We get Armand’s cosmopolitan French accent, a British accent – cockney?- for the cook, a Russian accent, a New York cop, the driver/butler, and of course Sean’s “accent”. And there’s more! This is the beginning of a series that Joel gets to narrate – YAY! – so he’s preparing us with all the host of characters - what a mouth-full that must be! What I think is amazing: Joel’s ability to switch from one voice to another – no matter how many characters are involved – and keep it accurate. Awesome!

In any case – this was just plain FUN! It reminded me of a “telenovella” – high drama- all the time. Joel is really good at the emotion and timing – showing us how much Armand cares for Sean – how confused Sean is by Armand’s feelings – and the growly moments when Armand must defend Sean. There’s never a dull moment with these guys – every meal is exciting!

If you’re a fan of the author and the series – this is a must! If you haven’t read this, but you love a good “dramatic” romance (with - let’s face it – some OTT moments) of the Cinderella type trope, if you love accents as much as me!, or if you’re just in the mood for a somewhat predictable but still entertaining shifter romance – this is for you!

5 of 5 stars for the narration

"Great combination of story and performance"

I have read all the Wolves of Manhattan stories and was so excited to see the first story in audio. Joel Leslie's performance is stellar, his command of accents and French pronunciation is almost perfect.

For those who like shifter stories, this series has some different conventions than you usually see but it all makes sense and is internally consistent.

Looking forward to the other books in audio!

    "Thank-you, Thank-you, Thank-you!!"

I was really excited to hear that this book was coming out in audio format. I've read and re-read each of the books in this series multiple times. I'm SOOOOOO hoping the rest of the series comes out in audio as well.

Joel was a GREAT choice for narrator. This series contains A LOT of characters, and Joel did a nice job of giving each of them a unique sound. The only question I have is why he gave most of the were characters French accents. They are of French descent, but they would have (presumably) been raised primarily in the US.

    Story
    "Okay story, amazing narration"
What made the experience of listening to His Omega the most enjoyable?

Joel Leslie's narration, he did a great job of making sure each character had their own voice. Not just that, there were many cultures with varying accents involved in the storyline (French, British, Russian, Irish) and he nailed each and every one.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

The various aspects and characteristics of Sean as the Omega and Alpha Mate of the pack was different enough from most shifter stories to intrigue me.

I cannot keep count of how many times Armand called Sean 'baby' - it was distracting and almost nails on a chalk board frustrating because the one hundred fifty something year old Alpha couldn't string two sentences together without using the term.

What does Joel Leslie bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He thoroughly conveys every accent flawlessly, which only adds to the depth of the story.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The conversations with Sean, Armand and their wolf cub adopted daughter.

    Any additional comments?

I was drawn into this story from the start and while it was mostly Leslie's narration that kept me hinged to the book, there were some good aspects to the actual story itself as well. The world of this particular Shifter community and the way things were described that was just different enough to keep me intrigued. The hierarchy and the way things were set up, dealt with and the way everything played out spoke of the Author's skills to build this world and create the characters.

The breakdowns for me were that a Centuries old Alpha wolf only seemed to know ONE term of endearment, baby. Sean's complete change of heart literally from one minute to the next. The use of the term "bitch" when referring to damn near every female wolf. And the anit-climatic ending. I wanted a bit more of an explosion and, I actually liked what took place with Sean at the end and would have loved that to be explored a bit more.

Leslie's narration as always was spot on. He nailed every accent, tone and inflection with precision and truly brought the characters to life for me. While I'm unsure if I would read or recommend the written story, I highly recommend the audiobook because it is such a treat, even with the aspects of the story that I didn't care for.

"Even a great narrator can't save a poor story"
Would you try another book from A.C. Katt and/or Joel Leslie?

I love Joel Leslie narration, which is why I bought this book. However I would skip A.C Katt moving forward

What was most disappointing about A.C. Katt’s story?

The characters were very 2-dimensional. Especially Sean. He was such a non-character. All this stuff happens to him and he's just swept along with no conflict or development. He just blithely accepts it all and we get no insight into any struggle or issues he may have had. There really wasn't much "story" beyond poor kid gets swept up by super rich guy, gets everything he ever wanted, and lives happily ever after.

Which character – as performed by Joel Leslie – was your favorite?

Joel is great at giving all the characters distinct voices, which makes following the story a lot easier. Since I didn't care for the characters, I can't really pick a favorite.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

Joel Leslie. He really did his best with what he was given.
