Publisher's summary
Edward Crawdon, Duke of Hartridge, is being forced by his slightly overbearing but loving mother to spend time with her old friends at their estate in Ireland. He does not know it, but a contract exists between the two families stating that Edward must marry their eldest daughter.
On the day of his arrival, Edward meets Lady Rebecca, Caroline's younger sister, under very unusual circumstances. Edward cannot stop thinking about Lady Rebecca, but she is completely unsuited to being a duchess. However, she becomes rather a toast of the Ton, and even though he cannot marry her, Edward realizes that he cannot stand idly by and watch Rebecca marry someone else.
Will Edward admit his true feelings for Rebecca? Will he defy his responsibilities and duties, his idea of a "proper" duchess, and follow his heart?

Yet, Davina MacCallum's reasons for searching out the handsome Duke of Brentworth have nothing to do with marriage. Scottish lands were unfairly confiscated from her family by the Crown and given to his. A reasonable man with vast holdings can surely part with one trivial estate, especially when Davina intends to put it to good use. Brentworth, however, is as difficult to persuade as he is to resist.

Very enjoyable
I liked this a lot! I listened to this going to bed and woke my husband laughing out loud. I loved the characters and the dialogue was a riot. Rebecca is quite a lady. And Edward is charming. This was a pleasure!

Narration
Only the high pitch of narrator’s voice. It did no justice to the male voices. Also, too excited and rapid. I slowed the speed but two narrators, male and female would have helped he audible version of this story.

I was hoping for more but.....
This was actually a good story and a definitely 4 star worthy effort on Nadine Millard's part, but again as so many romance novels do, the story ran flat soon after. There were moments where the story was more entertaining and moments where it dragged on. Overall entertaining and if you are looking for a historical romance and are okay with a not very challenging love story but one where the issues get solved easily and without much fuss then this could be a possibility for you.

Delightful light romance with a delightful heroine. The narrator was ok but could have been better.

Wonderful sweet historical romance
This was a lovely, sweet, and beautiful romantic novel. I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was I admit a bit predictable, but that's not such a bad thing for me. I was already expecting that. So I was just along for the ride. I was very happy with the flow and detail in the story. What I enjoyed most though was the narrator I think. Then again I'm a sucker for accents, so that may play a major roll in my preference. Lol, I admit her male voices where not very masculine, but you can tell she put as much emotion into them as was called for. Making it easy to fall into the story and get lost in it. If your looking for a light romantic novel with a happy ending I recommend this one!

Extremely Funny Regency -- Loved it!
Any additional comments?
This is one of those listens where you’re either smiling like a fool or chuckling. I usually do my listens as I work in the house. My hubby probably thought me strange indeed!
For a debut novel, I thought the book was extremely well written, both in plot and style with all the necessary earmarks of an exciting story, propelling me enthusiastically through the listen. It was well thought-out with plenty of action with no scenes lacking good pacing. I would certainly continue to look for reads from this author and hope to continue the series with book 2.
It must have been very hard to be a klutz during the Regency era where Polite Society picked apart any actions which didn’t follow the rules and norm of a proper lady or gentleman. Lady Rebecca very innocently got herself into a devil of a problem, not just occasionally, but all the time. If Lady Rebecca had been anything less than she was, the duke would not have noticed her. Their mix of tempers and her outspokenness, led to delightful scenes, rather like a sparring match and quite entertaining.
I enjoyed the narrators energy and playful tone in the humorous parts of the story. Even though she didn't deepen her voice for male characters, it didn't seem to bother me. I so enjoyed how the narrator depicted George Simons, an evil man who was slightly insane. She truly made him sound demonic and definitely Irish. I’d also like to remark Ms. Crick’s crying scenes were very authentic along with the sniffing and the audible gasp heard in dialog where appropriate. Since this story took place, partially in Ireland and the rest of the time in London, it was interesting to hear Lady Rebecca’s maid with her Irish lilt and speech common to servants of that time.
Lady Caroline, sister to Lady Rebecca was the epitome of grace, properness and beauty. This was not 'her' story, but her character was well-developed and I’m sure she will appear in book 2 of this series. Lady Caroline had been the one his late father had wanted him to marry. Certainly, she was the perfect one, but he felt nothing. That is to say, nothing for her, but her minx of a sister, being most unsuitable duchess material, had not only captivated His Grace, but amused him when life had become rather boring since becoming duke.

Nothing really happens in this story.
What disappointed you about An Unlikely Duchess?
Nothing really happens in this story. If ones reads the explanation of the book provided, that's all you need to know.
What do you think your next listen will be?
I always have one but I can't remember the name right now since I just ordered it. Currently listening to "Edge of Eternity" by Ken Follett. His stuff is always good but it takes a long time to wade through it.
What do you think the narrator could have done better?
Narrator was fine. Just nothing to narrate.
What character would you cut from An Unlikely Duchess?
None of the characters did anything remarkable anyway.
Any additional comments?
Needed some kind of interesting plot!
