Publisher's summary

America's most enduring hero, Jason Bourne, returns in a propulsive, fresh story for the Bourne canon that tests old skills - and uncovers new ones.

After the death of his lover in a mass shooting, Secret Agent Jason Bourne is convinced that there is more to her murder than it seems. Worse, he believes that Treadstone - the agency that made him who he is, that trained him - is behind the killing. Bourne goes rogue, leaving Treadstone behind and taking on a new mission to infiltrate and expose an anarchist group, Medusa.

But when a congresswoman is assassinated in New York, Bourne is framed for the crime, and he finds himself alone and on the run, hunted by both Treadstone and the tech cabal that had hired him. In his quest to stay one step ahead of his enemies, Bourne teams up with a journalist, Abbey Laurent, to figure out who was behind the frame-up and to learn as much as he can about the ever-growing threat of the mysterious Medusa group. As more and more enemies begin to hunt Bourne, it's a race against the clock to discover who led him into a trap...and what their next move may be.

it's about as close to Robert Ludlum's writing as you can get. Much better than some of the other Ludlum wannabes

I always wonder how much influence Amazon has in the final version of the author.

Enjoyable but not as good as Von Lustbader's 1st

The story felt very disconnected from the rest of the series as though it was just the individual random story. In my opinion Von Lustbader did an outstanding job of continuing the the iconic story that ludlam started. I'm going to miss several of the excellent characters he created and developed over the course of the last 11 novels. I also found Freeman's Bourne less inspiring than Von Lustbaders's version.
All that being said, I did enjoy The Bourne Evolution. I just hope Mr Freeman evolves in his next Bourne offering.

I liked this book, I actually read the book after Jason met Abby. It was good to see how they met.

Brian Freeman brings back the Bourne series

This is the fourth iteration of Jason Bourne films and books that I have consumed. I loved the Bourne movie trilogy plus the additional films. I also enjoyed the original Ludlum book trilogy, even if the books were very long. I liked the first couple of the Van Lustbader books but then they turned awful, being overly long, meandering, silly and topped with faux sophistication. I eventually gave up on the Bourne series until I saw that Brian Freeman had taken it up. I had read and enjoyed some of Freeman’s other books so I gave his Bourne series a chance. One thing to understand about the various Bourne iterations is that there is virtually no continuity between them. They share some character names and a concept (secret agent with amnesia who is wtongfully being hunted down by his agency), but otherwise they are like four independent series. Anyway, Freeman’s Bourne seems like a return to the feel of the movies. There is a lot of action, a new Marie-like girlfriend, and a secretive band of villains. One reviewer commented correctly that there is even a very James Bond-like feel to this book, especially with one of the female villains. The plot is very fast paced, though I did guess the secret villain mastermind fairly early. I did note that Bourne made a few glaring blunders and I did have to scratch my head at one character in the story who was described as Bourne’s childhood friend. Given that the whole Bourne storyline is that he lost his memory of his pre-spy life, it struck me as a weird twist to have a childhood friend amongst the characters. But despite that, I enjoyed this book very much and I look forward to continuing the Bourne series once again.

Bourne Is Bourne

From the start, Jason is playing the odds he will survive again, not counting on anyone’s assistance but of course another beautiful woman enters his personal space and he likes it. But Miss Shirley has a special interest in Jason and Miss Shirley doesn’t like to share, so watch out for punishment.
