Publisher's Summary

In a land ruled and shaped by violent magical storms, power lies with those who control them.

Aurora Pavan comes from one of the oldest Stormling families in existence. Long ago, the ungifted pledged fealty and service to her family in exchange for safe haven, and a kingdom was carved out from the wildlands and sustained by magic capable of repelling the world's deadliest foes. As the sole heir of Pavan, Aurora's been groomed to be the perfect queen. She's intelligent and brave and honorable. But she's yet to show any trace of the magic she'll need to protect her people.

To keep her secret and save her crown, Aurora's mother arranges for her to marry a dark and brooding Stormling prince from another kingdom. At first the prince seems like the perfect solution to all her problems. He'll guarantee her spot as the next queen and be the champion her people need to remain safe. But the more secrets Aurora uncovers about him, the more a future with him frightens her. When she dons a disguise and sneaks out of the palace one night to spy on him, she stumbles upon a black market dealing in the very thing she lacks - storm magic. And the people selling it? They're not Stormlings. They're storm hunters.

Legend says that her ancestors first gained their magic by facing a storm and stealing part of its essence. And when a handsome young storm hunter reveals he was born without magic but possesses it now, Aurora realizes there's a third option for her future besides ruin or marriage. She might not have magic now, but she can steal it if she's brave enough.

Challenge a tempest. Survive it. And you become its master.

A fresh concept

I felt the author built this world up perfectly. It is easy to imagine both in physical appearance and politically. The concept of fighting storms and taking their hearts is a new for me. I was intrigued to find out the orgins of the storms. It's nice to find something new under the sun. The lead, Aurora aka Roar, goes on an adventure to find power. She ends up finding the knowledge of how the world really works and possibly the love of her life. A love she just met and has lied to since they first spoke. There is the dreaded love triangle... sighs... But there is a spark of hope that it is dropped in the next book.

The author uses multiple point of views but keeps the transitions clean cut. I've been torn on how to rate this book. It reads similar to the work of Sarah J. Maas, A Throne of Glass series. If you enjoy such stories involving young female leads that journey out of their comfort zone to grow in confidence and power, then you'll be entertained by this read. It is a true YA story, so if you are a borderline YA fan then be weary.

Lacking Emotional Depth

I struggled to finish this book. I was looking for a strong female lead and I never seemed to get her. I was cringing for the entire first 10 chapters due to the amount if awkward lusty physical descriptions. I am actually horrified that young girls would read this because it tells them that the behavior of the male characters is appropriate - the girls should enjoy unsolicited physical contact. Just when I thought the lead was getting her head straight a new guy traipses into the story. There just isn't any subtlety to the romances and I couldn't stand it. The story itself is creative but the vibes are sexual assault-y.

Refreshing!

I loved the concept/world of this book. I feel like so many these days are just the same story rewritten with some small twist, but this was new and refreshing and didn't feel like fan fiction from some more popular series. Would highly recommend to anyone who is a fan of fantasy and romance!

Interesting new world and take on magic

PG-13 YA. Themes were alluded to without too much detail but just enough not to feel censored.

Interesting take on magic that I hope to see developed further in book two. Typical female protagonist and love interest - which I enjoyed. Am I cruel for hoping there is a love triangle in the next book?

Loved it

I absolutely loved this audiobook. I really enjoyed the story, the romance and the fantasy. Not too long ago I remember wishing I could find a fantasy with a romance all together and here it is! I found it because I love this narrator so much and was searching for more of her performances and I am so glad that I bought it!!! I loved it. Can’t wait to listen to more.

Enjoyable, but Wished there was More Action

This book was enjoyable, but I really wish there had been more action involved. I didn't like Aurora/Roar because she just got on my nerves for all the complainting she did concerning her abilities. I didn't like the instant attraction at all. I hope the sequel is better than this.

Badass

Personally I loved it, though the pacing was fast/slow in some scenes and the training bits were tedious, it was good. I have been staying away from YA for a while since it's all starting to blur together but this one still on its own feet in my opinion.
