Excellent Book/Audiobook 2

The sequel to High Mage King was fantastic and expanded upon the first. MC did a great job and decisions were practical. The love interested continue to grow in size and the spicy scenes were fun. Looking forward to the ever growing threats of war from all sides. Can’t wait for the next installment!

predictable but fun

I liked the character progression for our main trio, although I found the overall plot more than a little predictable. still a fun listen.

Good storyline

Little to long on the sex side take out that aspect of the book it shortens the listen by hours per book still a great overall listen

One of the best books this year

Action, great story line, and some steamy scenes also. Defintely recommend. Should not miss it

MC is a wimp and there is very little logic used

first off, lets start with the good. The VA Performance was fantastic.

that's all of the good. The MC is a wimp who is undecisive, lacks any confidence, and pretty much takes a back seat while everyone around him makes the decisions for him (usually not with his best interests in mind). He constantly just goes along with the decisions of thoses he doesnt trust to not stab him in the back. i swear to the gods that he is playing a game to see how complex of scheme he can make his own death. one charater will say "oh im pretty sure the people at that city are traitors or would at the very least like to see MC dead." Then MC and party go " Nice lets go there and show them our necks and see what happens". These books legitimately feel like the author first picked out who he wants the MC to sleep with and where they will sleep together, then threw in/forced the rest to fit in those bullet points.

2/10 would not recommend

Simp MC

I concur with a review that the MC is lacking confidence. Often, High Mages are spoken of with prestige, yet our MC is worried about his relationship with one girl because she ignored him for a few days. While another is throwing herself at him, not realistic for a man, a king. And to have her say, “oh I’m glad you two will only ever be friends.” Ha, dude does need to grow a pair.

Good but MC gets annoying

The self deprecating lack of confidence and social awareness is pathetic. Some version of "Oh they seemed like they're flirting back, surely that can't be the case tho right?" is said a thousand times. He doesn't have to be a Casanova but the repetitive obliviousness just gets annoying. At what point do you finally realize your a high mage and grow a pair. Like the two girls belittling his girl, within earshot of her, and he does nothing. Most of his interactions are just meek or he doesn't speak up at all. Eventually at the very end he kinda redeems himself and gained some confidence becoming King. Book 1 and the world building is actually pretty good overall. So hopefully the confidence sticks and book 3 isn't full of him still being a simp.
