Publisher's Summary

"You're a hero every f--king day, Tate," I said softly. "Don't ever forget that." (Hawke)

Ex-Special Forces soldier Michael "Hawke" Hawkins has spent every day of the last 10 years waiting for the moment he would get to watch the life fade from the eyes of the men who brutally murdered his wife, but when he finally gets the break he's been waiting for, the trail leads him to someone he wasn't expecting.

After nearly two years of running, 24-year-old Tate Travers has become an expert at hiding...until the day a dangerous stranger shows up looking for vengeance and threatens to destroy the fragile life Tate has managed to build for himself and his five-year-old son. Except the life Tate has been struggling to hold on to started unraveling long before Hawke showed up looking for the same men Tate has been running from...his own father and older brother.

Retribution - it's all Hawke has wanted since the day he held his wife's hand as she took her last breath. And he won't give that up for anything or anyone...not even the tormented young man trying to give his little boy a better life. Because Tate is the only one who can lead Hawke to the men he's been searching for. And if it means forcing the young man to confront the past that nearly destroyed him, then so be it.

Only the last thing Hawke expects to feel is something besides the hatred that has driven him. And he definitely never expected to feel it for a man.

But when it comes down to choosing between the unwanted feelings Tate stirs in him and the revenge he's finally close enough to taste, will Hawke be able to give up the one thing that has kept him going for a second chance at a future he gave up on ever having?

Superb Perfection

I absolutely love Sloane Kennedy, her ability to take me into a story and make me feel... everything that her characters do is an amazing emotional journey. I really loved this story and it was great getting to know Tate and Hawke on a deeper level.
This is actually the first narrated book I have ever listened to and it was fantastic! I really enjoyed Joel Leslie's narration and how he brought a depth and life to the story that you just don't get when you read it yourself.
I definitely recommend giving this a listen to because you will definitely love it like I did!

Oh Sloan

Joel, first off, you rock. You bring life to each character. You're voice carries so much emotion that I feel every moment.
Sloan, I'm slowly buying all of your books on audible. I've read them and need them on audio with a fierce desperation. These men and all they go through to get their true love just rocks me to my core. Thank you for sharing your stories, I don't know how I could get through my existence without them.

Retribution and Vengeance are a double edged sword

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Oh hell yes, it was SO good! The story was well placed, everything slowly unfolding at the perfect moment. The narration was even better, the level of emotion poured into each word brought all the characters to life.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I really enjoyed Tate. The way he was written as well as the voice Leslie gave him. He was the one person that break down the walls Hawke hid behind. He reminded Hawke what it meant to live, love and be part of something amazing.

Which character – as performed by Joel Leslie – was your favorite?

Mattie! That little boy seriously stole the show. The best way to describe Mattie would be meek but adorable.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

"Daddie, can I open my eyes now?" That's all I'll say, you'll have to listen.

Any additional comments?

I cannot get enough of this series. I wish the audiobooks could be released one a week until Leslie catches up with the ones already written. And I'm quite sad I can't just que up the next book immediately.

These characters, broken and twisted souls, want revenge on the person or persons that broke them. They've all lost something that can't be replaced and in the process, locked away their humanity in order to do what must be done. Sometimes they have tunnel vision and start down the wrong path in an attempt to achieve that revenge, but they aren't so far gone they can't be set on the right path.

Hawke lost his wife and unborn child and he will stop at nothing to bring down the people responsible. Even if that means using another man's child as leverage to get that person to do what he wants. Somewhere along the way, his heart that Hawke was certain was permanently broken, begins to beat again.

Tate's fear of Hawke slowly unravels and becomes something more dangerous, love. How could someone as cold and callous as the brooding vigilante every care about him? But Tate is also stubborn, loyal to a fault and determined to protect Mattie at any cost.

Leslie pours all of the pain and anguish these men feel into the voices he gave them. I could hear their unique tones begin to change as their feelings toward one another changed. THAT is what makes a good narrator.

Definitely recommend this series, it's so good I'll likely listen to them again. In fact, I think when each new book comes out, I'll go back and listen to them all again so everything is fresh in my mind.

Love, love love

Every book I read in this series just seems to get better. Sloane creates a band of brothers that anyone would want at their back.

Tate's survived horrors, Hawke is a man that horrors run from. The chemistry is palpable but so too is the absolute heartache.

Hawke's sole purpose is to find the men who murdered his wife. His search leads him to Tate's front door and what follows is a story of redemption, passion and vindication.

Joel's narration is spot on as usual and he adds so much depth of feeling to the words Sloane writes with skill.

Loved it

I listen to this book, that I have read many time, it was awe inspiring Joel Leslie voice is like honey warming your body, once again he has done an amazing reading.
Sloane Kennedy can do no wrong for me, she has a talent for the written word.
You want a strong story you're got it here,
How it begins is Hawke wants to destroy the people that killed his wife and unborn baby. When he seeks out Tate, little knowing that Tate had no hand in it, so the journey begins. It has its HEA.

Incredible Book and Narration

Would you consider the audio edition of Retribution to be better than the print version?

This was my first audio book and I think it's incredible. Apart from a great story, the narration was much better than I expected and I really enjoyed it.

Which scene was your favorite?

When Hawke admits his love for Tate and Mattie and wants them to become a family.

Any additional comments?

An incredible book with a beautiful storyline. Hawke and Tate are wonderful characters with a strong connection and incredible chemistry. I love that they help each other heal as their relationship grows stronger and stronger.

So much better than just reading it!

Wowza! So much feeling and emotion in hearing the book as opposed to just reading it. I loved it then and I love it now even more! I can't believe how much this narrator got to me! I totally felt it. Amazing job on both their parts!

Retributionis brilliant

I was given a free copy for a honest review but I've already brought and read the previous books and listened to them I would of definitely brought this. If you have read the books , you know how Sloane brings the characters to life and your living their lives through her but now through audible and Joel Leslie you land up feeling your sitting in the same room as them . I will definitely be keep buying these on audible even though I've got all her books.

One of my favourite Sloane Kennedy books

I read Retribution when it first came out and fell in love with Tate, Hawk and Matty. Listening to the book reminded me why I fell in love with them and also gives you a different experience than reading it yourself. The narrator is brilliant and really brings Sloanes characters to life. I would defiantly recommend listening to this book on audio.

Pulled me in from the first word

Wow. Just.... wow.

This was an absolutely stunning audio - the story was great, as is to be expected from Sloane Kennedy, but the audio was absolutely wonderful. The story is told in alternating PoV and there was never a doubt whose voice I was listening to - Tate and Hawk had very different personas not only in the accent/style but inflection, emotion and pacing and it worked beautifully. And Matty? At no point did this sound like an adult doing a kids voice, but instead it was a young boy, with all the feels a young boy has.

This audio makes you live the story, not listen to it and I highly recommend it.

Perfect Narration

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, I already loved Hawke, Tate and Matty on paper but the narration brought them to life and don't get me started on the different voices Joel Leslie used on different characters, superb!!!

What other book might you compare Retribution to, and why?

Broken Pieces, the use of different voices when different characters are talking, I love that

What about Joel Leslie’s performance did you like?

He brought the emotions by the characters out so well and made me fall in love with them all over again
