All of the stories you've heard are wrong. They always tell you that starting a new life in a fantasy world is an amazing experience, full of magic, adventure, and true love...but they never tell you what happens when it's over. They don't tell you that it just happens again. And again. By the time you start your third new life in a row, all of that initial amazement wears off.

That's where Lux finds himself now: dropped into yet another fantasy world, forced to restart his life all over again. Having lost the people he loved twice over, he wants nothing more than to disappear and live a life of solitude...but it seems the world has other plans for him.

This book felt like a very long prologue. The MC has no purpose or plan or enemy or goal or even a clue. He makes obviously dumb decisions and acknowledges it but then continues to do it. It's like he learned nothing from his previous experiences. Experiences which, by the way, we get to hear a whole lot about. Nearly every other chapter is a flashback. Not only is it excessively disruptive (really, the author could/should have just made longer chapters), but it makes the story draaag. This makes it feel like nothing's happening and the whole time it's like a build up that never climaxes or concludes. The book kind of just...ends. It's not a real end to anything cus, again, nothing happens. It's not even a change of scene, it literally ends in the midsts of action!

The pacing is also a bit weird. We get details to mundane and meaningless moments, but some of the best parts are glazed over and we barely even get to know the characters. Why does MC love the bunny girl? Why does he love Leah? That whole relationship oddly and suddenly escalated with no explanation or reason. I'm still update at the part where he and Leah are sharing things about each other and she's telling him about her hobbies, but we never get to learn what they are cus the MC just says "she told me about her hobbies," and they leave it at that. I finished the book and I still don't know anybody's motivations.

The narration itself was okay. It was a bit jarring hearing him inhale between every sentence, but that's more due to lackluster editing. Overall, I wouldn't really recommend this book unless you want a very slow slice of life and maybe you're a young teen who's really into anime.

I'm glad I read it free with Premium. Unsure if I'll listen to the rest of it. The idea of the story is very interesting, but this execution is less than sub par.

What did I just listen to?

Very enjoyable. These books in the series keep getting better, but this first book is not hard to follow. The flashbacks build the backstory, and the easy pace matches the frustration the MC has with being reincarnated multiple times, leaving hard fought loves.

ignore the negative reviews

I originally passed on this book because of the poor reviews. I continued to just ignore it whenever it came up based on those reviews. however, having read through nearly 1,000 books over the past 3 years, I ran out of things to read. that meant it was time to hit the maybe never pile.

I was surprised to find a well edited and entertaining story. a main character who has been through hardship and tragedy and come out the other side with a strong will but who would love some peace and quiet. Sadly, that's not in the cards for him, and to protect those he cares about, he is forced to engage with the world.

I don't understand why the reviews are so bad on this book, and it almost seems like an organized attempt to shut down the author. I hope you give it a try and find it as enjoyable as I have.

ignore the poor reviews this is a good book!

really wanted to like it more than I have so far.

I am far more interested in the flash backs than the current story where the mc keeps fucking up.
