Publisher's summary

We've all seen it before: the ambitious leader who enjoys great success and then, inexplicably, crashes and burns. Perhaps this leader has been you. Why does this happen, in spite of the leader's vision, talent, and emotional intelligence?

Richard Boyatzis and Annie McKee, co-authors, with Daniel Goleman, of the international best-seller Primal Leadership, argue that today's leaders face unprecedented challenges that result in a vicious cycle of stress and sacrifice, with little or no recovery time built in. Consequently, even the most resonant leaders, whose ability to deftly manage their own and others' emotions once drove their companies to greatness, end up spiraling into dissonance.

In this new audiobook, Boyatzis and McKee marshal decades of multidisciplinary research and hands-on consulting work to provide a practical framework for how leaders can create and sustain resonance in their relationships, their teams, and their organizations. To counter the inevitable "power stress" of the leadership role, leaders must consciously manage the "Cycle of Sacrifice and Renewal" by stepping out of destructive patterns and renewing themselves physically, mentally, and emotionally. Through vivid examples, the authors show how three key elements - mindfulness, hope, and compassion - are essential to enabling renewal and sustaining resonance.

Leaders can't sustain effectiveness if they can't sustain themselves. Resonant Leadership offers inspiration, dozens of exercises, and other tools to help listeners become and remain successful leaders in their work and in their lives.

Renew your passion and effectiveness

This most important audio book builds on the authors' previous bestseller, Primal Leadership, one the business world's all time favorites. Their new audio offers executives effective exercises and ways to strengthen their ethics and their emotional resilience. This is as must have for leaders and managers in any business who want to be happy and avoid burnout.

Is there any practical content at all?

Gosh this is the worst book I ever bought from Audible.

There is zero practical information in it. It's all fluffed out hot air. Just repeated terms, like the never ending use of the word "resonant".

I would have loved just two powerpoint slides, slide 1) the problem 2) the cure, with bullet points to each, that would have covered the entire book and saved hours of painfully boring trifling on and on waiting on any content.

It's bad. Nothing practical, nothing you can use and even the stories in it have very questionable interpretations.

Great book and must-read for all managers. It outlines common pitfalls through narratives and explains how to develop your own leadership skills within an organization or team, at any level.

I want my $5 back for this book.

The first two chapters where unbearable. The rest was fluff.

Summed up, Someone did something and we believe it was resonant leadership. Over and over.

I will avoid books by these authors.

Great Concepts

The book covered what many companies neglect in management and leadership. Most of the examples were hard to relate to but the context was useful and exciting.

BEST BOOK ON LEADERSHIP

I highly recommend this book to every person who is commited to her personal development as a requisit to become a genuin and inspiring leader. The authors take you, step by step with an elegant and straightforward model to overcome our fears and biases, and to leave our typical disonance way of boosing, until we reach the radiant type of leadership. So, go for it.

Read as Part of an EMBA Class

There is not exactly a dearth of leadership books out there. I suppose this one is as good as any of the others. it is my understanding that this approach is not necessarily the "in" leadership buzz so if you are looking for a reasonably well written leadership book that might provide a new perspective, this might be just the ticket.

Disappointing

Full disclosure: I did not finish this book, and returned it to Audible after several chapters. Pretty disappointing as I felt the book the authors wrote with Daniel Goleman ("Primal Leadership") was one of the better books I've read on leadership. Too much of the early part of the book is spent telling you about how being a leader is becoming harder than ever (debatable), how their book is built unreal research (whereas many other leadership books are crap), and then all the nonsense about how the brain works and how we're wired (not saying it isn't scientifically accurate...more that it's the kind of stuff psychologists think is actually relevant, vs focusing on how people behave in life.) Basically the message is -- focus on the people around you, and take good care of yourself so you're not in a bad place with your work. Very much feels like a book that academics wrote, vs real practitioners/experienced managers.
