A Warhammer 40,000 Novel

Night has fallen on the prison world of Zartak. Renegades from the Imperium's dawn stalk the complex, delivering pain and death. Yet something just as dangerous awaits them: the brutal, predatory, but ultimately loyal Space Marine Chapter known as the Carcharodons.

LISTEN TO IT BECAUSE

It's a gripping tale, as stalking Night Lords face the Imperium's most predatory Space Marines in a darkened prison – with wardens and convicts caught in the middle.

THE STORY

On the prison world of Zartak, darkness has fallen on arbitrators and inmates alike. The Night Lords have come, bringing with them the shadow of fear and pain. But these monsters are not the only ones with an interest in Zartak. From the void, running on silent, another fleet emerges.

These Space Marine warriors are grey-clad and white-faced, and their eyes are as black as the Outer Dark – the savage Carcharodon Astra. As two packs of ancient, merciless predators stalk the shadows of the prison colony, both seeking a single young inmate with unnatural talents, the corridors run red, and both factions will have to fight tooth and claw to leave Zartak alive.

The Carcharodons novels by Robbie Macniven are some of my favorite 40k books. I'm so glad they've finally begun putting them in audio format! if you want a carnage strewn story of Maori-esque Space Marines fighting against traitors, this is the novel for you!

Carcharodons at last!

This book was possible the most balanced fight between chapters I have ever read which both sides feeling quite powerful while not stomping the other with plot armor. I genuinely had no idea how the book would turn out and it left me in a constant state of suspense

This one was a real enjoyable book. I don’t think I’ve ever read a book and hoped so hard for both teams. I mean I will always 100% be a Night Lords fan but the Carcharodons are a great new successor chapter to introduce. 8/10 solidly recommend.

I loved it because you get to see tactics and traits of each side. the 8th is gets trapped on to much as a fighting force but in this book you get more taste of what they are actually about. my favorite loyalists are the charcaradons and having book about them without needing to interject tyberios is great. so is he but we needed to know if they can handle their own without the red wake wiping their butts.

impressive!

Everyone is correct. The story is great, the characters are very well written (Charcharodons and Night Lords), and Shogo Miyakita is now a contender for my favorite narrator.

If you’re a fan of both the Carcharodons and the Night Lords, Red Tithe is an absolute treat. Robbie MacNiven crafts an intense narrative that showcases the unique strengths, ideologies, and brutal tactics of both factions. The Carcharodons are portrayed as cold, calculating predators, embodying a primal, shark-like ferocity combined with a rigid sense of discipline. Meanwhile, the Night Lords deliver their trademark brand of psychological warfare, thriving on fear and terror with a savage edge.

The book does an excellent job of honoring the lore and ethos of both factions, creating a balanced portrayal that allows each side to shine without diminishing the other. Their interactions—whether through visceral combat or through their stark philosophical differences—are gripping and layered, giving fans of both factions something to savor. You’ll appreciate how the story captures the sheer brutality and tactical genius of these warriors, while also exploring their darker, more nuanced sides.

Whether you’re drawn to the primal savagery of the Carcharodons or the haunting terror of the Night Lords, Red Tithe ensures both factions get their moments of glory in a conflict that feels personal and meaningful. As a fan of both, you’ll likely find yourself torn as the story unfolds, making it a thrilling and rewarding read.

Heard of the Charcharodons before, but was under the impression they skirted the line of heretics. Especially considering the brutality of Tiberos. This story shows them in a better light as skillful hunters and those loyal to the Emperor. Interesting matchup between them and the Night Lords.

Feels like some 40k books try to do to much but this one does a great job of creating a great battle with solid characters.

Exactly as the title says. McNiven helps flesh out what little I didn’t know about the Carchardons and their chapter workings. Putting them up against a Nightlords warband was so great and a grisly battle between two factions known for their unrestrained violence. Highly recommended (make sure to read the short story “The Reaping Time” first, and don’t ever bother with “Silent Hunters”, McNiven is the only person that should write Space Shark fiction)

A fantastic exploration of Space Shark lore
