Publisher's summary
In Red Leaves, Edgar Award-winning author Thomas H. Cook pens a compelling tale of suspicion and its corrosive effects on a family. When a little girl is missing on the morning after his teenaged son baby-sits for her, Eric Moore watches his world crumble as suspicion falls on his son. Although Eric hires a lawyer to prepare his son’s defense, a haunting thought slithers into his mind. What if he has been nurturing a monstrous fiend?

Story
It was not a clever killing. On May 5, 1973, three men escaped from a Maryland prison and disappeared. Joined by a 15-year-old brother, they surfaced in Georgia, where they were spotted joyriding in a stolen car. Within a week, the four young men were arrested on suspicion of committing one of the most horrific murders in American history. Jerry Alday and his family were eating Sunday dinner when death burst through the door of their cozy little trailer. Their six bodies are only the beginning of Thomas H. Cook's retelling of this gruesome story.

Cold, dark, uninhabited forests that are often shrouded in fog. And it's the kind of case that makes his blood run cold.

So sad!
The author did a fantastic job conveying the emotions, struggles, etc., that families must go through when faced with such horrific situations. David Chandler, again, was exceptionally fantastic!

Well written with a take on a crime from the perspective of the father of the person of interest. What do you have next for us Mr Cook?

Red Leaves
Very deep, but simple story about a family that grapples with family loyalty, faithfulness, and trust. Frequently, I find myself not able to focus on an audiobook quite as well as a book. Mainly because the words aren't there to go over again and again. And I think we all struggle with retaining our comprehension at times, but his book made me want to re-focus my efforts to pay attention to the story because of the exciting pay-offs through-out. Give it a chance. It's well worth your time to listen.

One of those rare gems you happen to stumble upon.
Best book I’ve listened to, so far. I used to think listening to books instead of actually reading them took something away from the story, but this book proved me wrong.

I gave up early.
I did not the like the way this author wrote at all. I found the premise flawed, I mean who goes out for an evening and not check on their kids when they get home. Who would wake up in the morning finding their child missing and not call the police first thing. All kinds of logical flaws. Can you tell that I hated it. And did I mention I really disliked the style and structure of the writing. But, since I did not finish, maybe you might think different.

Slow burn
If you like a slow burn book this is the book for you, I myself found it very boring and dull. The ending had a twist that I didn’t like very much. This book my not my cup of tea.
