Bonds That Make Us Free is a groundbreaking book that suggests the remedy for our troubling emotions by addressing their root causes. You'll learn how, in ways we scarcely suspect, we are responsible for feelings like anger, envy, and insecurity that we have blamed on others. Even though we fear to admit this, it is good news. If we produce these emotions, it falls within our power to stop them. But we have to understand our part in them far better than we do, and that is what this remarkable book teaches.

Heralded by the New York Times and Time as the couples therapy with the highest rate of success, Emotionally Focused Therapy works because it views the love relationship as an attachment bond. This idea, once controversial, is now supported by science, and has become widely popular among therapists around the world. In Hold Me Tight, Dr. Sue Johnson presents Emotionally Focused Therapy to the general public for the first time. Johnson teaches that the way to save and enrich a relationship is to reestablish safe emotional connection and preserve the attachment bond.

“Greg Baer is the most unconditionally loving man on the face of the planet. Every parent needs to hear what he has to say.” (The Ed and Ruth Shaw Show, Talk America, nationally syndicated)
Despite our best intentions, most of us are woefully unprepared to become parents. In Real Love in Parenting, you'll learn the answers to the questions below, and you'll discover that parenting can be deeply rewarding, instead of tedious and frustrating.
- Why are children so often angry, rebellious, disobedient, and otherwise difficult?
- What is the real reason you get angry at your children?
- How can you teach your children to be loving, responsible, and happy?
- What should you teach your children about sex?
- What are your children trying to tell you (and why are you not hearing it)?
- What should you do when children quarrel with one another?

Skeptical at first but glad I kept listening!
I do not believe that parents cause behavior in their children. I do know we have a huge influence on them. As I began listening, I wondered if the message was that every poor action my child made was my fault and that Mr. Baer was advocating permissive parenting. I am very grateful I continued listening! This is an amazing book for parents as well as anyone who works with children. I taught second grade before my children were born. There are so many things in here that would have helped me there. I feel like I could be a much better teacher if I go back when my kids are older. I have a toddler and a baby. Much of this book is written with examples of older children but the principles are the same and learning what I have I believe I won't be in many of the situations outlined. I mentioned I feared he was teaching permissive parenting but quite the contrary! Please keep listening! He gives insights and teaches parents how to support and teach their children such that they develop responsiblity, attributes for success, they feel fulfilled, and are loving to others. My children have been blessed by what I've learned and it has given me insights into my daily interactions with all people and into myself. Well worth the time!!

Amazing! The truth that could heal the world!
This book is very to the point and blunt and absolutely true. If people humbly follow its teachings it will heal their relationships with their children as well as their marriages and all other relationships in their lives. Being a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints I have to say this very much alligns with the teachings of Christ as well as his example to all of us. This book is going to change my life!

I love this book! I have 5 children and I am so grateful for the unconditional love this book has helped me to be better at expressing even when times are tough or I don’t like a child’s behavior or decision. I want my children to always know that I love them no matter what. This book helps me to know how to do that! I have felt more peace and more love as a mother because of the things I learned from “Real Love”. I would definitely recommend this parenting book! One of the best I’ve ever read!

Life changing & eye opening
This book hits the spot when it comes to living a full life. Part of living a full life is to have a family and with this philosophy of finding real love in your life you’re able to build what we all desire for happiness in our lives and those who are with us. While challenging and sometimes even difficult to hear about the things we need to change in our life, this book helps us promote the difficult growth of becoming a much happier person ourselves- and the best parent for our children. I would recommend this book to everybody!

Not bad
This is ok, I disagree with him on a few things. I don’t believe people only act out because they don’t feel loved, but as I listened to this book and bounced back and forth between learning about “servant leadership” I see that it’s basically the same thing. It’s also a lot like the book “parenting with love and logic.”

Work of a genius! Absolutely brilliant!
I do not have children but as I was assigned to do some volunteering work with teenagers, even after reading other books by Greg Baer and talking to ‘wise people’, I was still stuck and felt helpless with snotty and rude, what you call ‘impossible’ (very unloved and empty) teenagers. I have put away reading this book for a while and when I started I realised how much this was giving me EVERY ANSWER I needed in loving and teaching them. And even more so - I was able to see and understand better myself, people around me and all those principles and laws there were missed out from my upbringing. I felt seen accepted and loved just by reading it! Audible has definitely helped getting through the book faster and easier (then carrying hardcopy around). Being it narrated by Greg himself is a cherry on a cake, I find his voice very soft and yet fearlessly confident like himself, that I can trust and relax into and find the support I need.
As a result I know even better who I AM, feel stronger and happier. Defo less afraid of being around children, even difficult.
Who knew that reading it will turn out to be a such healing experience for myself... Grateful
