The world’s bestselling crime writer Patricia Cornwell presents the extraordinary eighteenth novel in the Kay Scarpetta series, in which Kay Scarpetta is confronted with a case that could ruin her professionally and personally.

Kay Scarpetta has been training at the Dover Port Mortuary, mastering the art of "virtual autopsy"—a groundbreaking procedure that could soon revolutionize forensic science. And it is not too long before these new skills urgently need to be put into practice. A young man drops dead, apparently
from a heart condition, eerily close to Scarpetta’s home. But when his body is examined the next morning, there are stunning indications that he may have been alive when he was zipped inside a pouch and locked in the cooler.

When the revolutionary 3-D radiology scans reveal more shocking details about internal injuries unlike any Scarpetta has ever seen, she realizes that this is a case of murder—and that she is fighting a cunning and uniquely cruel enemy. Now it is a race against time to discover who and why before
more people die. But that time is running out …©2010 Cornwell Entertainment, Inc. (P)2010 Penguin Audio

I don't know this wasn't her best book or at least my opinion wasn't her best book

the readers were different from her normal readers

I even double checked to make sure it wasn’t a virtual voice. I am 7 chapters in and thinking of quitting. I slowed the speed a little , which helped a bit, but not sure it is enough. The tone is so different, I initially thought it was the wrong series.

Well, I finished it but it was a real chore. I found myself confused often, And bored. My least favorite of the series so far.

This narrator is killing me

Great book, what i actually listened to, the narrator is so monotonous! very little inflection, weird voices for men, and everything always ends with low energy like and forlorn sigh.

Great book and story as always

I'm only halfway through this one, after zipping through the series up to this one. The narrator feels robotic and not emotionally connected like the other narrators, weird musical background interludes, and possibly my biggest gripe: Scarpetta has a whole secret military background we never heard about before now, despite hearing her inner monologue for 17 books? Or did I somehow forget that important detail? This one just feels off. I'm dreading that the next book is the same narrator. 😂 I may have to listen to the rest of this one and the next on a fast speed to just power through.

Feels disconnected from the series

I love the Kay Scarpetta series, but feel the narrator was not good for Port Mortuary. At times, I felt like I was listening to a newscaster and other times she would go into this weird whispering voice. Not excited to know that the same narrator did the next one, Red Mist, that I am starting next.

Narrator’s poor performance
