Another thrilling mystery featuring Detective Sean Duffy and his most dangerous investigation yet.
Belfast, 1988. A man is found dead, killed with a bolt from a crossbow in front of his house. This is no hunting accident. But uncovering who is responsible for the murder will take Detective Sean Duffy down his most dangerous road yet, a road that leads to a lonely clearing on a high bog where three masked gunmen will force Duffy to dig his own grave.
Hunted by forces unknown, threatened by Internal Affairs, and with his relationship on the rocks, Duffy will need all his wits to get out of this investigation in one piece.

Gerard Doyle, as always, is a perfect match for this series.
Another great installment

There were so many things to love about this book. The beginning, when Sean is being led at gunpoint to his execution - huffing and puffing - sets the stage. His relationship with Beth is typical Sean. We can see that his past excesses are coming to haunt him when he has to face a police physical. A murder by crossbow! Who would have thought? Sean being sarcastic and disrespectful? Well, that's why we love him.
It took me two runs through this series before I realized DC Lawson is the same Alex from HIDDEN RIVER. Clever that Mr McKinty. Duffy, Lawson, and Sgt McCrabben (I listen to the audiobooks so I'm not sure of the spelling) make a fantastic team.
This book had me laughing, cringing, a little teary-eyed, and fearful. It was fabulous.
I cannot say enough about Gerard Doyle. This collaboration between author and narrator makes this series special. Makes it phenomenal!
McKinty is a genius. I hope he's busily writing the continuing story of Sean Duffy (or Michael Forsythe even.)
I highly recommend this book, this series, and this author!
One of the best!

If you could sum up Police at the Station and They Don’t Look Friendly in three words, what would they be?
McCinty has a way of injecting humor into his stories that is just wonderful. And Gerard Doyle is a treasure - he's one of my favorite actor/narrators.What did you like best about this story?
I just love Sean Duffy. He is a unique character in this genre.Which character – as performed by Gerard Doyle – was your favorite?
I adore Crabby, Sean's friend and sidekick. If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Gosh, I don't know but I wish they would come to the screen. These books would make a wonderful TV series because the characters are so multi-dimensional.McCinty is just a lovely writer.

Any additional comments?
This author and this narrator are an amazing match. I feel I know the characters well, to the point I could have a pint with them and discuss the troubles, despite having grown up in Florida. This is the best in the Duffy series and all have been FOOKING BRILLIANT! (will probably come off as a tosser for saying that)Fooking Brilliant!
