Extremely Helpful!

I’ve always loved playing poker with my friends, but I always just thought it was about luck. Now I realize that there’s simple math that you can apply to give yourself the best chances in the long-run. Understandable tables are included that clearly explain concepts such as ‘outs’ and ‘expected value’ - I now have a confident grasp of these. I had heard of this watching poker on TV but they never really sunk in for me. The book isn’t very long, but it’s concise and to the point. Really looking forward to trying out these strategies on my Friday poker nights!

Not sure this author has ever played poker

I wanted to make notes on all that was so bad about this book to give a more detailed review but thought of having to listen to this again to make those notes is well, it's not happening.

I honestly have no idea if this author has ever played poker. The first 4 or so chapters are for newbs, what hands beat what, what a flop is, make the best of 5 cards, etc;

The rest sounds like this author skimmed through a bunch of poker books, took what he thought might be relevant and reworded it into his own book. Instead of teaching how to calculate hand odds, he literally says "use the rule of 4 of 2" without telling you how to do it!

Not sure if common poker sayings are different in other countries, but it sounds like this guy has no idea what the common lingo is, and in some parts it sounds like he's making stuff up, badly! (Like if you miss a flop or the turn, river, etc; it's called a "failure". He doesn't refer to AK as big slick, it's the letter a and a king. I wish I could remember more of the weird made up lingo to put in this reveiw, but trust me, do not waste your time with this even if it is given to you for free!

Easy to Understand with Many Examples

I'm half way through the audio book now. It's great for a beginner like me and explains the need to have a feel for both the psychological and mathematical approach. There are also plenty of examples with different examples to let you know what concepts are useful and when. Good luck at the tables!

Worth the money and the time to listen

This audio book gave immediate results. I've been playing recreational poker for a long time. This audio book took my old school thought on poker and added multiple tools to use at my disposal. My next 10 tournaments I played I cashed in six, bubbled once and overall played great in all of them.

Only halfway through the audio book but it has already improved portions of my game. Looking forward to finishing it and start raking in the dough!

A very good audio book.

A very good audio book for beginner/intermediate NLH players that want to understand when to hold and when to fold based on poker math. The audio book contains easy to remember "rules of thumb" to quickly calculate pot odds and hand odds while playing. The information in this audio book will help you to make more profitable decisions when you play. Essential listening if you want to play poker for "real money."

Impossible to understand...

... not because the book is complicated but simply because the use of the English language is incomprehensible in many places. Its almost like large sections of the book have been put through a malfunctioning thesaurus. One short chapter on Tips was OK (just) but the rest was a complete waste of time.

Learning to read people

I bought this book because I always wanted to learn how to play poker. I didn’t know how tricky this game was. There is so much strategy. This book goes into teaching you what the poker ratings are to so that was especially helpful. I realize more now that there is an art at bluffing too. Learning to read people is fun anyway but this book goes into detail about reading your opponents so you can win. I was surprised about the detail for playing poker for a living.
