Publisher's Summary

From the universe of the Until the End of the World series

Book two of The City Series is here! (Note: The City Series can be heard before or after the Until the End of the World series)

Months into the apocalypse, the zombies show no signs of dying, but it's clear everyone in Sunset Park will die without enough food to outlast the undead. Add in the less-than-sociable new neighbors only blocks away, and the hunt for sustenance has come to feel more like a race than a ramble.

Sylvie is happy in her new home with the people who've become like family, though she's still working out how to let them into her heart. Eric wants in, and he wants to find his sister, but he can't do both at the same time. If he can do the second one at all - getting into the city was hard enough, getting out may prove impossible.

Despite setbacks - and a couple million zombies - it seems fortune is working in their favor. After all, food, security, and family are extraordinary when just being alive is a notable accomplishment. But fortune can turn on a dime, and all it takes is one misstep.

Fix the audio!

I love the author and I love her books but changing the way the narrators read it for this book was really jarring and it’s subpar to the first book. Keep all the ladies read by Therese and all the men by Luke. The worst was Leo who seemed years different in age depending on who read him. Sylvie and Eric both were not captured well by the opposite genders, it’s like they didn’t even listen to each other’s portrayals. Not sure why it was changed but it was a huge fail and disappointment.

Another great book in the End of the World series. I have been devouring these books since last week. So good!!!!! Love the world the author has created but even more I love all the City descriptions and I feel like I am there (thankfully not the situation just the city lol) So much happened in this book but the ending was SOOO Hard! Can't wait to see how this ends in the next book. I hope it's with a little closure and hope for change.

Therese Plummer and Luke Daniels were great but I have to say who ever Proofed this audiobook did a terrible job!!!! I caught multiple mistakes. This is recorded in duet style but there are parts were Therese narrates the male parts in her female voice and parts were she narrates the male voice in her male voice when Luke is supposed to be narrating all the male parts. Not blaming the narrators but the proofers or who ever splits the book into who does what parts.

It was okay!

The story itself was decent but Sylvie's character got on my last nerve. I didn't like the way they switched up the narration. In the first book the woman read all the female parts and the man read all the male part which really gets you engaged. This book the female read everything in the Sylvie chapters. If there is a third book I hope they do the narration the way they did in the first on.

Ready for the next book

I hope the next book is written and ready to go, I’m so ready for it! I don’t think that liking or disliking zombies really matter much when listening to this book, actually all the books she’s written. You get so involved with knowing, loving or maybe disliking the characters (not too many to dislike), that you want them to do whatever it takes to survive. As I listened I could picture so much in my mind, Ms Fleming does a awesome job of making everything so real. Hope there’s a new book soon!! This book could be for any YA thru senior...I’m 67yrs old!

Sarah's books are amazing!!!

Sarah Lyons Fleming is such an amazing writer!!!. Her characters draw you in and invite you to play along!!!
The only drawback was Luke Daniels performance. At times you couldn't tell which character was which. And after Audible fixed this book from its previous performance, it was still off in so many places!!! Luke or Therese would be reading the wrong parts at times. I sometimes wonder if Audible even proof listens to the work being produced.
Thankfully, with that being said, Sarah's story still kept me engaged.

Anticipation overwhelmed

Easily one of the best zombie series ever written. The author actually takes the time to insert you directly into the relationships and feelings of the stories main characters. You will see what they see and feel as they feel, it is an end of the world scenario like no other. Don’t miss out on this one.

Humor, Zombies and Some Romance

I was very impressed with the first book in the series, and equally impressed with the second. There was a moment where I was saying to myself, wait .. this is a romance book .. what am I doing listening to a chick lit offering. But throw in some apocalypse adventure and a little humor and deep relationship commitments and it looks like I am on board full throttle.

The third book in the series has yet to be published so I did a little research on the author and found out there are related books from the same world focusing on the lost sister of Eric Forrest - Cassie. I will now have to find out if her story will match the intensity of the incredible main protagonist, Sylvie in this City Series.

Eric and Sylvie got some bad news in this book when looking for Cassie. It looked like she did not make it. Now I will find out for sure in the "Until the End of the World" series.

I will not reveal much of the plot - it is more fun to just let this good book unfold. But, be prepared for some heartbreak - not all of the main characters make it to the end.

Story was good, wasn't particular on the narration

I did like it better when the guys in the story were read by a guy and the women read by the woman like the previous book.

Change in narration from first book throws you off

Would you try another book from Sarah Lyons Fleming and/or Therese Plummer and Luke Daniels ?

Yes, I enjoy the authors writing style and will continue to listen to her books. However, the change in the narration style from the first book is very disappointing. The narrators were great in the first book. Therese did all of the female voices and Luke did all of the male voices. In this book, They were really able to bring each character to life with individual personalities. In this second book, Therese does ALL of the voices for the Sylvie chapters and Luke does ALL of the voices fro the Eric chapters. The inconsistency is very distracting and throws off the ability to get lost in the story.

What did you like best about this story?

I like ve pst apocalyptic stories and the humanity of people coming together in difficult situations

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Therese Plummer and Luke Daniels ?

I think they do a good job narrating the characters of their own gender and the book would have been better if the narration was done the same as in book one.

loved it 👍

Loved all the books in this series and the end of the world series. Brilliant, compelling story that had me gripped from the start and blubbering and laughing at different parts. The only series of books that I sometimes rewound a bit just to drag it out a bit!
I can't wait for episode 3, but I'll have to wait a few months so no idea how I'll cope without the brilliant characters that I grew so fond of and who I'll miss until the next time 😢

I'm in love with this author and her zombies!

After having listened to all of the "Until the End of the World" books, I was thrilled when I found out that Sarah Lyons Fleming was writing a new series that is set in the
Until the End of the World universe but with diffrent characters (You don't have to have read UTEOTW in order to understand and follow Mordacious).

Both Mordacious and Peripeteia are wonderfully written,it takes place in NYC and there is never a dull moment and you can't help but fall in love with the characters. I have laughed out loud and sobbed like a baby listening to Peripeteia! It's a must for any Apocalyptic fan, you'd be crazy not to read it!

Can't wait for book 3!!!

Good book but stalls alot.

Too much girl chat in this book. At a time when thr world is ending and has become super scary, the main character is paused and thinking about her shoes busy making humourous comments Too many attempts at the character being humourous when it seeks to not fit in the rest of the story. Not enough shock factor to the 1st she experienced a zombie. very American school girl feel which was also off putting. Most annoying was this need to have a thesaurus in the book, trying to use some silly new word everyday which feels very uperty and snooty and not in keeping with a zombie apocalypse. felt like the characters weren't connected to the story very well as if a school girl high school book had been adapted to fit into a zombie apocalypse book. wierd. annoyed me every time it came up. random. Sorry was good but it stalled alot, with too much socialising and chatting, and yes I know that is reality but I just got bored alot waiting for the next saga of action which took ages at times. will listen to book 2 as I bought the 3 together but not expected or on the edge of my seat or anything. Good book to listen to in order to get to sleep at night. disappointed considering all the hype. Definitely written by the girls for the girls. its put me right off female writers and no I'm not a guy I ak a girl but jeze

An odd addition to the series

Most of this book is taken up with endless heart-searching and self-absorbed introspective whining on the part of the two main characters. The narrators are annoying and their nasal whining very irritating! I was also taken aback by the completely unnecessary insertion of characters who were previously involved in IRA terrorism - without any comment on their former actions other than implied admiration. This was both shocking and bizarre. I was determined not to continue onto book three until about an hour from the end, when the action ratchets up and the writing improves, to the extent that I was totally gripped. At one point I even cried! Why the author doesn't write like this throughout, instead of sticking to sub-standard chick-lit zombie lite teen romance nonsense most of the time, I don't know. I want to know what happens next now, so will take a chance on the next installment in the hope that the plot continues to improve.

totally hook on these series

all the emotions come out listening to this series , brilliant books.
performances are good thou dont really like that with this book they read for both genders so that the same character had two voices bit confusing and really like the first books voices. other then that amazing to listen too and epic to read.
Edit- hear they might 're record the voices, fingers crossed.

Awsome second part

If you've gotten this far then it's because you love both the series. I'll never tire listening to them. The performances in the other books are outstanding, and the characters are always just so compelling. No one is without point or reason.

I have one complaint in the entire of these series, why change the vocal performance format? It was perfect in the first book of this series and to go from that to this was cringey. I got over it, i preferred the woman's version than the male doing female voices. I just don't see why there was a change.

Book 2 narration is poor

What didn’t you like about Luke Daniels and Therese Plummer ’s performance?

Performance of their opposite sex characters!

Love the story but it is ruined by the narrators’ performance.

Why the format of the readers was changed in Book 2? Why not stick to the same format of Book 1, where the female narrator reads for all female characters and the male narrator does the same for all male characters. It worked really well in Book 1 but a pity that was not consistent for Book 2.
Must admit that from Chpater 3 onwards, I lost the interest to continuing with this book .... very hard going as the performance for each characters except that of Erick and Sylvie, is so poor....

You didn’t love this book--but did it have any redeeming qualities?

Great story it is!

Any additional comments?

When is book 3 due? And for the sake of the ‘City book series’, stick to the narrators’ format of Book 1!

A story of survival.

I listened to this straight after the first book so all the back stories were still fresh in my mind. There’s the general fighting of the zombies and bits of peril as one would expect. However this book had also a lot of the practical side of survival, planting and getting a long, and did look at a lot of the things that I have thought about should I have to get out my zombie whacking shovel.

The females are again either gorgeous and lovely or mean and gnarly, there is also once again a fair bit of I am not good enough, I should have done this……that or the other……. This does surprise me as it still implies that we need a man to feel complete. I did stick with it though as the book is really well written and very well narrated, so now I am going to have to get book three to see who “gets it”

Narration not half as good as book 1

I forced myself to listen till the end as the story itself was just good enough to want to know what happened next. Therese did a good job as narrator but Luke was cringeworthy. Sometimes i had to check If my speed settings were correct as he just raced through the text. His reading of the lead female character’s voice was extremely creepy.
