Publisher's Summary

Supermodel and super CEO of our time Tyra Banks and her mother Carolyn show readers why when you kick perfection to the curb and showcase your unique beauty ain't nobody gonna stop you!

In Perfect Is Boring, Tyra Banks and her mother, Carolyn, get raw, real, and cray-in-a-good-way as they share what they’ve learned on Tyra’s journey from insecure preteen to supermodel and entrepreneurial powerhouse. Though she’ll be the first to tell you she is not her daughter’s best friend - 'cause she ain't that kinda mama! - there’s no doubt that Carolyn’s signature mix of pep talks and tough love got Tyra to where she is today, and here they pay it forward to empower readers with a reminder that perfect really isn’t all that.

Whether they’re writing about watching Tyra’s most imperfect moment go viral (does “Be Quiet Tiffany!” ring any bells?), no-holds-barred sex talks, or how they’ve overcome everything from fashion industry discrimination to media fat-shaming and a misguided attempt at a music career, they never lose their sense of humor or we-got-your-back-spirit. Full of smart, wise, and often hilarious lessons for mothers, daughters, fathers, and sons everywhere - including “Take Responsibility for Yourself”, “Lip Gloss + Pizza Sauce = Boss”, and “Fix It or Flaunt It” - Perfect Is Boring is a must-listen for anyone who needs a kick in the booty, a pat on the back, or a good reason to laugh out loud.

Momma London is so Funny!

I have to admit, I thought the combo narration would be all sorts of corny but it was well done and Tyra' s mom had me laughing. I wish I had a woman like her in my life.

Irritating

Had to stop listening because she was so hyper and way too animated she made me nervous and anxious! Too bad because I am really interested in her life but couldn't take the anxiety.

I Expected More

Reading the reviews for this book, I expected something stellar. The performance was all right, most parts felt real. I was hoping to be inspired by the book but I guess it's really just an autobiography. It's impressive that Tyra has been able to get so far in her career and I respect her determination and talent. We've all heard the "love your body" spiel a million times but Tyra puts it well by saying "fix it or flaunt it."
Some of the book gets a bit preachy and it felt a little disingenuous. Was she using slang because that's how she talks or was she just using it just to appeal to the younger crowd?
Overall, it's a fun, light read if you really want to hear Tyra's story. But if you're looking for a kick in the butt, there are better books available.

Unpleasant to listen to.

Too much screeching and hollering. I turned it off and removed it from my device after the first 25 minutes. Unfortunate purchase.

Fun Tyra (and Mom) Tale

I like the heart of Tyra Banks and now we know who it takes after.

This is a fun and entertaining book. It had its more emotional, touching moments and it also had a couple of bits that I reckon are more directed towards young girls who look at Ms. Banks as a role model.
I was actually hoping for a "deeper" or more "adult" read, but all in all, it didn't disappoint.

It is read by her mom and herself and they are a perfect pair, (many narrators ought to get a tip or two from them).

Being a light, good read, I do recommend it but don't expect a piece worthy of the Literature Nobel Prize.

I loved Tyra, but I love her even more NOW!!!

Tyra Banks has been an idol of mine for sometime now. She has given females such as myself the courage to be who we are meant to be. This book was beyond empowering, from stories told by her mom and Tyra herself. Tyra has yet again managed to open my mind and eyes to the true meaning of Perfect is Boring!
