Publisher's summary

The United States is assailed by a deadly pandemic leaving millions of dead in its wake. In a desperate move, the president authorizes the early use of a vaccine to inoculate the military against the insidious, rapidly spreading virus.

A dedicated group of preppers and survivalists retreat into a self-contained bugout location in rural Idaho to seal themselves away from the outside environment. Two years later, the group must emerge from their refuge to garner life-sustaining supplies from the devastated apocalyptic world and the horrors that now abide within.

Pandemic Review

One of the best compilation of information I have ever read. His knowledge of military, geographical, and scientific topics is even better than Clancy, in my opinion. Where did you learn this stuff? I’m a 24 year Airforce vet born in Washington. A geek and was a Bomb Squad Master Sergaent. Awesome read. More More More

A frighteningly good story!

We are living in pandemic right now. This is a well written story about our current pandemic. It’s scary to think that this could happen but we know now that anything can happen. I definitely recommend this audiobook. The story has action, suspense, mystery, intrigue and romance.
The narrator in this story does a fantastic job with the characters and voices of each character. This is my first time listening to this narrator and I would definitely recommend him.

Just Wow.

The lead female character (Dr Kendra) is a rocket scientist, GP MD, surgeon, virologist, and veterinarian. She is snarky, condescending, and contentious to all males.

In the city a prepubescent 12 year old girl is kicked out of her group of children under 12 because her period will attract zombies when it comes. She joins the story's main group. She learns to fly helicopters in 48 hours on a computer. Dr Kendra and the girl sneak off into zombie country alone to get a helicopter. They find and start same that has been sitting in the elements for two years with no maintenance. They take off and do not crash. And these are the believable parts.

The men do have some skills but are basically sophomoric idiot cannon fodder.

When describing or talking about men the author and Dr Kendra use words like man-splaining, man-baby, and infantile.

If the above appeals to you then you'll love the book.

Why did he mess up a great series???

I loved the first book (The Retreat). It was everything I love in the book. I liked it so much that I downloaded the second book 1/4 of the way through the first book. 5 minutes into the second book I stopped it and deleted because it’s about stupid zombies. One of the most unbelievable SHTF situations there is. I will never believe the only way to eliminate a “former human” is by “removing their heads”. Ridiculous. After 500+ books about SHTF you’d think I’d know.
