Book is good ...but

The whole revenge as a driving factor thing is not well executed. The author wants us to believe that MC has been driven to an extreme mindset where he's purely motivated by the death of a loved one. It's a recurring theme ...it features prominently throughout the book ...but it has no teeth, it feels very forced, and IMO it detracts from the story.
It's just really bad, for example, when ur listening to the book and ur immersed in the story ...and the revenge thing pops up, it will yank u right out of the immersion. It doesn't flow naturally, n yea ...it bothered me endlessly.

Other than that though, I really like the book and I would highly recommend it.
It's a good story. The world building is pretty good, the magic system is nothing ground breaking, but it's solid, and the character development is good too (despite the revenge thing).

I'm looking forward to the rest of the series.

I liked it. Great series!

This is probably one of the more lighthearted revenge stories I've read. Much happens in a small time frame that throws off the pacing. An example being the MC complaining about eating deer meat so much lately and being sick of it even though he has only been in overworld a day and a half and only had one real meal so far. This isn't the only thing, as the pacing and perception of the characters make it seem like months have passed when in fact only days may have. This made transitions less seamless as I'm wondering on occasion how much time has passed (despite the day log of each section) only to realize, oh I guess no time has passed, why are the characters like more time has though.

It could be just me but that was really my only gripe accept maybe how lighthearted his revenge seems to be. Just didn't convince me.

So why the high review?

I still enjoyed it enough to want to see what happens.

This is a good System apocalypse type story. I also like the MC magic ability. It's an OP skill but also double edged. He is likely to kill himself as easily as his enemy if he isn't careful. I like being able to do discovery on your own. Makes her very open universe for the author to work in and also allows a lot of crafting which is fun. There is a small amount of crafting in this and a small amount of spell crafting. There are lots of battles in there quite intense. However it seems MC has taken the lonely route so we'll see how the author handles bringing it in lots of support characters in future books. I look forward to more books in this series.

All in all, the pros outweighs the cons. Story is good and would recommend it to anyone interested in the genre.

Somewhat okay

Sometimes with these litrpg stories, two situations occur. In one case, the main character acts like Rambo, prepared to take down the evildoer alone. In the other situation, the world is destroyed, people are transported to a real-life gaming world. Millions still die, though, but the supposed main character’s loss is somehow worse than anyone else. The two scenarios are getting old, and I would have hoped that this series would refrain from their use. Sadly the writer does not, so, unfortunately, I can’t recommend this book.

major points off

mc acts like a petulant child, ignored that he's handicapped, doesn't ask the guy with full wiki about cores or how to heal his leg.

sound effects

the narrator sound effects were lame. the translation was poor. I really didn't get how much a won was. and the story was constantly talking about money.

Too good for a short book

I normally don’t buy any book that is under twenty hours long but I got this one by mistake. And it turned out to be really good. Now I’m passed off because I’m going to be using my credits on these short books.

I love the storyline.

super fun to read about someone being overpowered. gives me a "defiance of the fall vibe" which is what I was looking for. just wish the MC would calm down a little bit about his mom and revenge. oh and turn down the volume before the narrator screams Into your ears. but everything between the sound effects and the "poor me my mom died" moments being very overcast. is amazing.

contrived story, bland characters, unlikable hero

the good: it's a full on nerdy world that scratches the lit-rpg itch. the voice acting and editing are pretty darn good, but not as good as some.

the bad: The non-protagonist characters are all the exact same bland, emotionless, lawful-good person. Not a single personality stands out through the entire story. It felt like a half-assed dnd campaign written by a middle schooler.

The hero is a prick. He's rude to everyone he meets yet they all love him? Everyone's in this crazy new world fighting to save their lives, yet he's unable to discuss any of his unique powers because... why? My mental image of him is of the quiet weird kid in high school who would growl at you if you tried talking to them like a normal person.

His motivation is supposedly vengeance and revenge, yet he never once showed any emotion after the "incident". The whole "I can't stay, must avenge" persona feels forced and doesn't hold water. I can't even say it makes much sense.

His physical flaw makes literally zero impact on anything that happens to him, yet the author brings it up constantly. This could have been left out of the book entirely.

The hero's shift into becoming this uber-badass doesn't feel plausible. When the story begins he's a 25 year old, crippled, single, gamer, living with his mother... then less than a month later he's the bravest Rambo mage ever seen and leading assaults on huge lethal baddies? Give me a break.

Sorry, do not recommend.

Only ok

The premise is good. Character are a bit one dimensional. Magic system is pretty bad. MC is a bit stupid and annoying. Gonna check the next book as I have nothing else to read.

Love this book

It's my second time reading/listening to this book as a preparation for book 2.
I love the world build and how the main character is different from the normal characters we get.
The world build is intricate and compelling. I lived every minute in and I am looking forward for the next book.
