Acerca de esta escucha
Born four weeks premature and weighing little more than five pounds, Scott A. McCreight had a rough start and uncertain future. He was placed for adoption, but the good news didn’t last long: shortly after, Scott was diagnosed with cerebral palsy. Developmental delays permeated his childhood, the odds for a “normal” life seemingly stacked against him.
But Scott has never paid attention to the odds. He has never paid attention to limitations, either. Scott demonstrates to the world that miracles do happen. Now, he’s sharing them with the world.
In Overcoming Insurmountable Odds, Scott chronicles his transformational journey from life as a shy, underdeveloped kid with a disability to a confident, accomplished engineer, extreme athlete, and bodybuilder. His story shows us that anything is possible, especially when life feels precarious. Scott debunks myths about cerebral palsy, describing his early life with CP, the suffering and breakthroughs he’s experienced, and how neuroplasticity and determination to defy the odds have changed his life. For anyone who feels constrained by limitations, Overcoming Insurmountable Odds is a powerful must-listen and proof of the possibilities that exist when you never give up.

But through self-discipline, mental toughness, and hard work, Goggins transformed himself from a depressed, overweight young man with no future into a US Armed Forces icon and one of the world's top endurance athletes. The only man in history to complete elite training as a Navy SEAL, Army Ranger, and Air Force tactical air controller, he went on to set records in numerous endurance events.

Our ancestors crossed deserts, mountains, and oceans without even a whisper of what anyone today might consider modern technology. Those feats of endurance now seem impossible in an age where we take comfort for granted. But what if we could regain some of our lost evolutionary strength by simulating the environmental conditions of our forbears? Investigative journalist and anthropologist Scott Carney takes up the challenge to find out: Can we hack our bodies and use the environment to stimulate our inner biology?

As recently as 1966, women were forbidden to run in the marathon. Professionals - including doctors - believed it was physically impossible and dangerous for women to run more than a mile and a half. But as with many other barriers women have faced over time, we fought our way in. Today, women make up almost half of the marathoning population. Yet most marathon training manuals are written by men. And while these men are experts when it comes to how men can and should train, women need training programs tailored to our bodies....

Imagine this (go ahead, it's an easy one): You're bored with your workouts. Nothing's changing; you're not getting stronger or leaner or feeling better, and, heck, maybe you'll just take a layoff and see what happens. You know what happens. That two-week layoff lasts a year, that's what happens! Now consider this: Traffic was light and you're 15 minutes early for your dental cleaning appointment. You flip open your device and bring up your new copy of Before We Go. By the time the dental tech calls you, you've heard two chapters and are amped to get to the gym. Your mind is racing through the appointment, and it's all you can do to stay in that squeaky lounge chair.

The Title Describes It All
I first learned about Scott through my company newsletter and later I had the pleasure to briefly work with him. He mentioned his book and I looked into it and purchased the kindle version, followed by the audiobook when it was released. This book covers a lot of ground and I learned a lot about cerebral palsy(cp) and how it has and is being studied and treated.
Scott begins with his early life and how he was diagnosed with cp and the impact it had on him. I think anyone who has grown up with a disability, not just cp, can relate with what he experienced. Much of the book is about Scott's struggles to push his physical and educational boundaries and accomplish tasks that many of us just take for granted such as turning the ignition of a car or(for some us) going to college. Throughout his journey I followed his many ups and downs and was rooting for him and the many people who supported him along his way. Were I in Scott's position I don't think I could have advanced through life like he has. I found the book to be inspirational and have used his story to push myself as well. A slight draw back for me was the narrator at times sounded robotic but usually after listening to him for a few minutes I would stop noticing it.

Discovery: Limitless
I personally know Scott. However, I really had no clue of the depth of his story. Unlocking your full potential is an understatement. We all have something we deal with in various ways. The first thing that impacted me was the determination of Scott’s mom to unlock his potential. As a mom myself I identify with the lengths we go through to advocate for our children. Betty gave Mighty Mouse his first cape! So inspiring to remind myself to push through, even when you receive pushback.
As the story continues…Scott strives for more milestones despite any and all obstacles. I found myself thinking about the twists and turns in my own journey. I asked myself…
”can you achieve true success without overcoming adversity?” Scott shared the reality of faith in Jesus. Believing comes easy for some, but the treasure comes from surrounding your life to Christ. Free falling into the arms of Jesus.
The technical details of this audiobook: At first the voice seemed digital, but I actually enjoyed listening to the monotone voice.
This book is for everyone. Thank you Scott for vulnerably sharing your life story. I know you have many more chapters ahead of you. Truly spoke to me as I look for examples of people living unstuck. #UnstuckLiving
