Publisher's summary

Fox-chasing Virginians go up against a band of outsiders in this riveting new foxhunting mystery featuring "Sister" Jane Arnold and her incorrigible hounds, from New York Times best-selling author Rita Mae Brown.

"Sister" Jane Arnold tries to keep an open mind about the new townspeople who have moved in so close to the Jefferson Hunt Club - yet so far from its traditions. But soon, posted notices about noise, mistreating animals, and the cruelty of hunting appear. Then someone close to Sister Jane is defamed, triggering a tense atmosphere ripe with the possibility for murder.

A wonderful series

Rita Mae Brown is one if the best! All of her books are terrific, but The Sister Jane books are to die for. This time around, Ms. Brown has taken real world tragedy and added her flair for mystery and intrigue.

Narrator/Author ruins book

After reviewing past Sister Jane books, all with RMB narration were all rated 1 star. This is the last RMB book I will purchase, unless of course, she hires a true reader. Sad because I enjoy story lines.
I have purchased books, knowing nothing but that I love the narrator.
Now doing the same in the opposite direction because poor performance.

She can write, but she can't perform!

This is an excellent series, I always the characters and the foxhunting setting. But this one is read by the author and she's just awful. No attempt at different voices, no performance at all. It's painful slogging through it.

I normally really enjoy this series, but this is the last one I'll buy on Audible if the author reads it!

disappointing ramblings

I so enjoyed the earlier books in this series but Out of Hounds, and the book just prior, focus far too much on the non -applicable ramblings, complaining , and philosophizing among old/dear/elderly friends, and far less on a captivating mystery. The emphasis on early Covid pandemic confusion added to the wearisome dialogs.
I am a horsewoman, an animal (esp birds, horses, dogs, and foxes) lover, a mystery lover, and of a similar age to the author & Sister Jane. Earlier books in this series were tailor made for me, but not these latest.
