Publisher's Summary

A New York Times bestseller

The bestselling sequel—and conclusion—to Victoria Schwab’s instant #1 New York Times bestseller This Savage Song.

Kate Harker is a girl who isn’t afraid of the dark. She’s a girl who hunts monsters. And she’s good at it. August Flynn is a monster who can never be human. No matter how much he once yearned for it. He has a part to play. And he will play it, no matter the cost.

Nearly six months after Kate and August were first thrown together, the war between the monsters and the humans is a terrifying reality. In Verity, August has become the leader he never wished to be, and in Prosperity, Kate has become the ruthless hunter she knew she could be. When a new monster emerges from the shadows—one who feeds on chaos and brings out its victim’s inner demons—it lures Kate home, where she finds more than she bargained for. She’ll face a monster she thought she killed, a boy she thought she knew, and a demon all her own.

A gorgeously written dark fantasy from New York Times–bestselling author Victoria Schwab, and one to hand to fans of Holly Black, Laini Taylor, and Maggie Stiefvater.

Amazing Finish!

These books are so special! They are sad, action packed, terrifying, and brutally honest. The narrator was amazing! She held the sharpness and sarcasm, it really made the story better! Our Dark Duet was even better than the first! Despite breaking my heart into tiny pieces, I enjoyed this! Both August and Kate grew so much! The ending was hear wrenching but final. Even the sad stuff was done so well, I wasn’t mad. My only complaint is the ending let some doors wide open. However, I’m so glad I finally finished this series!

Why Kate!

August is still tortured but stronger. Kate is still a badass but even more so. Ilsa is still alive!!!!! (yay! 😁) And this piece of shit Sloan hasn't died off yet (ugh!) . . . At least when the story begins. I didn't like the outcome for a few important characters but I can admit their outcomes made it a better story.

What The . . . . Just Happened ?

Victoria Schwab is one of the most amaZing writers. I love everything she puts out. But I will admit that this particular story, Killed Me. Never has she made me cry, so saddened by the out come. This book has it all and if you don't fall in love with most of the characters, you're heartless yourself. I hate spoilers , just know this was minimal in romance, but heavy on the heart and does tug on your heart strings - it rips your heart out and devours it with one bite. ❤️❤️❤️❤️

Not as enjoyable as the first book for me

I can’t get into it much without spoiling it but I’ll just say I didn’t enjoy the plot of this book as much as I enjoyed the first book. The pacing was a bit slow for me and I had a few problems with the way it ended. Overall, it was still a good listen.

Devastating and Perfect

I don't know what I expected from this book. Schwab is undeniably talented with words and worlds. What she's built here truly amazing, and the characters are agonizing in how real they are. This book took my heart out, smooshed it around, shredded it and then reattached it with some spit to my insides. Too graphic? Maybe not the book for you then.

So Make it Worth the Pain

[As for the humans, they were still divided, by anger and loss, fear and hope. Progress was being made, but August was coming to realize that there would always be cracks in the surface, shadows in the light, a hundred degrees of grey in-between black and white. People were messy; they were defined not only by what they’d done, but what they would have done under different circumstances, molded as much by their regrets as their actions… choices they stood by and those they wish they could undo. Of course there was no going back; time only moved forward, but people could change, for worse…and for better. It wasn’t easy; the world was complicated. Life was hard, and so often living hurt. “So make it worth the pain,” Kate’s voice whispered through him, sudden and welcome. And he drew a deep breath.]

This book tore me apart in the most beautiful ways. Several passages made me feel literal sorrow, and I can honestly say I have not had a book grip me this deeply all year! Victoria Schwab, this book is pure magic. I'll reuse a part of my review from the first installment because it says it best - I'm still grappling at the fact that this was a book about a city full of monsters, yet it was SO MUCH MORE!
