Emily and Stan Remington's maiden voyage in their newly inherited, second-hand RV goes awry when a body falls off the top of their vehicle. The retired small town police officer and her husband, a retired history professor, find themselves at the center of a murder investigation involving a politician, a corporate executive, and a maverick priest. Emily butts heads with the local sheriff as their search takes them from a backwoods cabin in Wisconsin's scenic Door County to the Bishop's Chancery in Madison to an abandoned island in the infamous Death's Door Straits.

On the Road to Death's Door: On the Road Mystery Series, Book 1
: M J Williams
A cozy mystery with a strong female protagonist. The husband is a bit scatterbrained but intriguing. Emily is a recently retired police officer. She and her husband set out in their newly inherited RV to travel the country. People and events from their past re-enter their lives setting up this story. A body turns up in an unusual place and the investigating begins. Many twists and turns bring the listener into the story. A great way to spend a Saturday.
The narration was well done. The characters were well portrayed. Jane Oppenheimer brought the story to life.
I would recommend this to anyone that enjoys cozy mysteries.

The premise (nomadic retired cop) has potential. It'll be interesting to see where the author takes this series.

A weekend reunion of college buddies known as the "factious four" turns into an investigative mystery for a retired sheriff when one turns up dead.
The story has enough details and dialog that the characters and scenery become real. The characters are likable and real. As the story progresses there are just enough hints as to whodunnit without giving it away until the end.
Jane Oppenheimer has a very easy listening voice. Her narration helps to make the characters and story come alive.
Grab a cup of coffee and keep the pot on as you curl up and listen or read to your hearts content, because you aren't going to want to put this one down!

Where does On the Road to Death's Door rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Top 5 definitely! What other book might you compare On the Road to Death's Door to and why?
In Milady's Bed Chamber. Both very good who dunnit mysteries. However, "Milady" takes place in London. What about Jane Oppenheimer’s performance did you like?
Being a female narrator, she did a great job portraying the male voices, of which there were many. I always knew who was talking even when there were 6 people in a scene. Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
I think the moments when Stan discovered something that reminded him of Father Vic and it made him teary eyed.Any additional comments?
This audiobook was given to me for free by the Producer / Author in exchange for an honest review.Great Who Dunnit! Great Narration!

The characters are all beautifully portrayed and the emotional chaos of an anticipated holiday and reunion of friends totally disrupted is perfectly observed, with excellent, natural and, sometimes, humerous dialogue. This is further brought to life by Jane Oppenheimer's narration. The conversations are well nuanced, the text read clearly and well paced. Her reading gives even greater reality to this warm hearted, inclusive book - and the mystery story is pretty good, too.
I was very fortunate in that i was gifted this book by the rights holder, via Audiobook Boom. Thank you. This is a gentle, pleasurable stand alone story which I recommend to anyone looking for an enjoyable way to pass a few hours, perhaps whilst on holiday!

Would you consider the audio edition of On the Road to Death's Door to be better than the print version?
I am not familiar with the print version, so I cannot compare. What did you like best about this story?
I liked that it was easy to follow and transitioned well.Which scene was your favorite?
I liked when the sheriff asked the main character if she was sure she and her husband were napping the whole time in their RV, and she said, "Well, not the whole time!" and it didn't dawn on him right away what she meant. Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I would've liked to listen to it all in one day, but the length would make that hard to do (8 hours).Any additional comments?
The story was great and made a lot of sense. The description of setting was done very well. However, I did feel the plot had some predictable qualities to it (involving the senator, for one, in a cover up of his past). I'm also a picky reader and don't necessarily like phrases like "shrugged his/her shoulders," A tighter edit would fix these problems, but they weren't so frequent as to keep the story from flowing. Thank you again for a great "read!"Thoroughly enjoyable thriller/mystery
