Her limited talent was enough to ensure a magical training, but she's very inexperienced and was lucky to get a position working in the Great Library. Now, the Grand Sorcerer - the most powerful magician of them all - is dying, although initially that makes little difference to Elaine; she certainly doesn't have the power to compete for higher status in the Golden City. Story
Minalan gave up a promising career as a professional warmage to live the quiet life of a village spellmonger in the remote mountain valley of Boval. It was a peaceful, beautiful little fief, far from the dangerous feudal petty squabbles of the Five Duchies, on the world of Callidore. There were cows. Lots of cows. And cheese. For six months things went well: He found a quaint little shop, he befriended the local lord, the village folk loved him, he found a sharp young apprentice to help out, and, best yet, he met a comely young widow with the prettiest eyes.

Story
The ancient magic of wizards was anything but dark. It was the enlightenment that lifted humanity from the squalor of superstition, and the worship of fell spirits and capricious gods, but those days are gone. The shining glory of the sorcerers burned away the subtlety of wisdom, replacing it with easy power, held only in the hands of the elite - a new age built upon the elemental supremacy of aristocrats and the ignorance of the masses.

Story
An inn is a place to rest, a place to talk and share stories, a place to find adventure, or a starting ground for quests and legends. It is in this world, at least. To Erin Solstice, an inn seems like a medieval relic from the past. But here she is, running from Goblins and trying to survive in a world full of monsters and magic. She’d be more excited about all of this if everything wasn’t trying to kill her. But an inn is what she’s found, and so that’s what she becomes; an innkeeper, who serves drinks to heroes and monsters. Mostly monsters. But it’s a living, right?

Story
Reginald, now king, is struggling against the rising tide of the Old God entities. He knows that his army alone cannot defeat them, even with cold iron that can contain them and free enslaved humans. But as cities burn and farmland is devastated, the people have been easily convinced by cultists to turn to the Old Gods.
Publisher's Summary
The Allied Lands are in mortal danger.
Three of the most powerful necromancers in the Blighted Lands have banded together into an unstoppable force, one capable of breaching the Craggy Mountains and laying waste to the lands beyond. If they cannot be stopped, they will tear the Allied Lands apart. Nothing will survive. And so Emily, the Necromancer’s Bane, is called upon once more to stand in defense of her adopted homeland and stop the necromancers in their tracks. Her presence may be the only thing keeping the Allied Lands from shattering as the war turns hot once again.
But there is a complication. Six years ago, Emily made a promise to the Unseelie Court, swearing to give them whatever they wanted in exchange for their help. Now, that promise has been called in. The Unseelie want her to travel into the Blighted Lands, despite the risk, and carry out a mission for them. And if she refuses, she’ll die.
Emily has no choice. Gathering an army, recruiting old friends and foes, and preparing new weapons, she sets out to challenge the necromancers in their lair, to complete the oath and win time for the Allied Land to prepare their defenses, to face the true horror of the Blighted Lands...and aware, all too aware, that the necromancers know she’s coming.

Old old old
In only one book ... everyone went from sounding young and attractive ... to sounding liked decrepit grandparents rasping on their death beds. Why did emily suddenly get old? Her voice was so beautiful before. Now it's like she's been smoking for 50 years and her lungs are about to give out. The voices sound more and more normal as the book progresses ... closer and closer to the old voices. I appreciate the attempt, makes the change at least bearable.

Great!
When a series is twenty books long and just keeps getting better, you know you have a gem. I do wish this book were a bit longer. It could have used some more character interactions to balance out the near constant action after the introduction. Looking forward to the next book! I really wish Audible would release this series at the same time as it is published, since we are two books behind at this point.
Also, for long time listeners, there is a new narrator for this book. It's a bit jarring at first after listening to 19 books done by the same person and some words and names are pronounced differently. However once you get over the difference, the narrator does a wonderful job that I personally think is even better than the previous one.
This series is definitely worth all the credits I've spent on it!

this series is getting very interesting!
I was a little nervous of the new voice actress. I'm familiar with her work from other novels, but she did a fantastic job! by half way through the book I couldn't tell much differences from her character voices, compare to the previous voice actress. all in all a terrific book! highly recommend this book series as well as anything else written by Christopher G. Great addition to the series. With minor nit-picks
Again Chris has given us another great addition to Emily’s journey. There are only a few things that I have to critique. I miss Tavia as the narrator Saskia did a great job but I miss the voices that Tavia gave to the characters. I know how hard it can be but Emily should stop blaming herself for everything that happens around her, she is on her way to becoming one of the most powerful sorceress in her world, she needs to start believing In her power and her mind. If she can’t deal with the blame other people put on her maybe she needs to disappear for a while, maybe explore the unknown content that appears on the old maps. Anyway great story keep up the great work Chris.

Love the storyline not happy about the new narrator
I was very disappointed when I realised that Tavia Gilbert was not continuing her reign to narrate this story, I have found it difficult to get used to the new lady as she has obviously not listened to how things are pronounced & it’s things like that that bug me, I didn’t understand what a few words she said meant until I was about 10 episodes in as she totally pronounces them wrongly to the other 19 books I have listened to in my marathon listen session, also she said a couple of people’s names wrongly in the context that so & so was talking to so & so etc...
But that’s me nitpicking.
I have finally got used to the way she makes the characters speak but I would still rather have Tavia as I knew instantly who was talking in the story without having to be told whom it was.
But apart from my griping I found the storyline to be one of the more gripping didn’t want to put it down as I wanted to know what happened next so I finished it in just under 2 days lol, I still love your stories & I apologise to the narrator, because if she had been narrating from the beginning I wouldn’t have had a problem if you see what I mean.
Thank you for your books I will still be listening to them.

New Narrator - Well worth sticking with!
Hate it when they change a Narrator half way through a series.
Then was really not sure at the start as I fou d the tone rather monotone.
However after an hour or so when she really gets I to voicing the characters I was sold! Really good performance
Story was solid as always.
Starting to feel as Emily is a bit OP though. Starting to feel sorry for the Necromancers! 😁
