Publisher's Summary

It’s the $10 million heist you’ve never heard of. In a matter of months, dozens of truckloads disappeared from American highways. But what were they carrying? Nuts.

Marc Fennell takes you into a rabbit hole of crime syndicates, stolen identities and private investigators that will change the way you think about food forever. Eighty per cent of the world’s almonds are grown in the heart of California, but this journey will take you to Italy, the Spanish coast, deep under the earth and even into space.

Could have been interesting if...

Oh Audible. I know you are trying to teach me a lesson with each Audible Original you "freely" give.
Why don't I ever learn the lesson? You can turn any story topic into a smug leftist morality speech. I am not
here to get told how I am ruining the planet by eating almonds. I thought this would be an interesting crime
story. But no. It was a guilt trip that lasted 4 hours. Way to ruin a good story. If you want to write about
the environment, capitalism, healthcare and guns then just say that is what you are writing about. Don't pretend
it is a crime story and then preach for most of the four hours. Sad.

Why?

Why the hell does he feel the need to go on a social justice crusade?
It was a cool story. Really interesting, even after letting his politics show a little.
Then somewhere around the 7-8th episode he goes way off topic and starts getting self righteous about the environment and social economic issues that he knows nothing about, and doesn’t even bother being objective.
It could have been a really cool documentary, but unfortunately he missed the mark.

Okay...but....

If he would have stuck to the story it would have been better. The last hour was a liberal rant.

Interesting story but too many editorial negatives

Good story but all the anti-gun anti-American comments.

Stick to the story please.

Interesting story, smug writing and delivery

Overly loud music makes this hard to listen too, but worse is Fennell's smugness. His disdain for the subject matter, the ranchers, workers and investigators is disrespectful.

Environmental lecture in the guise of a mystery

after a hours long environmental lecture the case is barely touched let alone solved, cheap bait and switch

"Guns are scarey"

Author was more worried about safe and legal gun ownership than a multimillion dollar crime.

Not my favorite approach

I struggled to finish this short documentary. I thought the story was interesting but Marc came across as extremely naive. The time spent on how scary the guns are on those investigators was really off-putting. Scary guns and scary AR 15s. It had a very childish tone and approach to the subject matter. Overall this piece was very informative and a good insight on the processes of the food industry transportation. Again, the delivery was painful

Four hours to deliver a Five minute story.

The writing and production quality are top-notch. But for hours to talk I'm about an unusual crime that could be told in 5 minutes, is too much.

Fantastic story, it's NUTS!

Marc Fennell delivers another cracking great podcast. I loved It Burns! A great true crime podcast and whodunnit about one of the strangest crimes ever. Loving it!
