About this listen

With Britain caught up in WWI, Jack Benningham, heir to the Earl of Stonebrooke, has declared himself a conscientious objector. Instead, he secretly works for the Crown by tracking down German spies on British soil, his wild reputation and society status serving as a foolproof cover.

Blinded by patriotism and concern for her brother on the front lines, wealthy suffragette Grace Mabry will do whatever it takes to assist her country's cause. When she sneaks into a posh London masquerade ball to hand out white feathers of cowardice, she never imagines the chain of events she'll set off when she hands a feather to Jack.

And neither of them could anticipate the extent of the danger and betrayal that follows them - or the faith they'll need to maintain hope.

The beginning is a bit slow, but you’ll be glad you stuck with it. It’s an incredible story, however I feel like the closing part of the book should have been much longer. Many important things happened that were brushed over and I wish she had gone into those events more thoroughly and given the characters time to live in their ending rather than ending so abruptly. The narrator does an amazing job, and I’m pretty picky about narration. It was so good I wish it had a sequel!

Amazing story, but end wraps up too quickly

I absolutely loved this audiobook. The main story and the subplots kept my interest throughout, and the performance by Justine Eyre was excellent. This book drew me in and it seemed like I was in a movie because the characters were so well developed and the descriptions brought everything to life. This was my first Kate Breslin book, and I am definitely a fan!

Read by one of my favorite narrators, with well-developed characters, cleverly intertwined plot elements, an ending with a slight resemblance to Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice, and a strong, underlying focus on Faith ... this book is now one of my favorites within this genre.

Absolutely LOVED IT!
